Her Story
About Xaria
My journey into mental health began in high school, where I worked in a preschool while simultaneously taking college-level psychology courses. These experiences sparked a deep interest in psychology, particularly in human development and the early foundations of emotional well-being.
During my final semester of undergraduate study, I enrolled in a play therapy course that immediately resonated with me. I pursued this path the very next semester as I began graduate school, starting my clinical training with a specialization in play therapy. My time working in preschool settings exposed me to challenges within the community, including concerns around overdiagnosis, underdiagnosis, and the need for stronger parental support systems. These experiences continue to shape my clinical focus and commitment to community-centered care.
Today, I specialize in child-centered play therapy with young children while also working with clients across the lifespan. My therapeutic approach is grounded in an existential framework and integrates somatic and expressive arts practices, including sand tray therapy and other creative modalities, to support emotional exploration and meaning-making. I view psychotherapy as a comprehensive process that honors the connection between mind and body. Working collaboratively with parents remains a central and valued part of my practice.
I have been seeing clients independently for over a year following my transition to working as an LPC-Associate. In 2025, I was honored to receive a Rotary Global Grant, which brought me to London, where I am currently pursuing an additional master’s degree to further expand my clinical and academic training.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the people who have supported me along the way. The mentors, instructors, and peers who guided and encouraged me have played a huge role in helping me grow. I’m also deeply grateful to my clients, whose trust and willingness to do the work with me make this profession possible. I wouldn’t truly be a therapist without them!
At the same time, I also give credit to myself. The process hasn’t been a straight line; it’s come with conflict and challenges. Resilience, purpose, and confidence...It’s one thing to know you have support, but another to truly believe in yourself and in what’s possible for you. I think my success comes from that combination of community support, meaningful client relationships, and a strong belief in continued growth.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women entering the field of psychotherapy to prioritize themselves. Recognize your value, your purpose, and the passion that drives you, and be intentional about making space to care for yourself along the way. Self-care is not separate from serving others; it is essential to it. When you take care of yourself, you are better able to support your community. Rather than trying to shrink or reshape yourself to fit into existing spaces, allow yourself to create space that fully honors who you are.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity is one of my core values. Alongside that, I deeply value autonomy and freedom, both in how we understand ourselves and how we move through the world. Open-mindedness and creativity are also central to me, as they shape the way I approach growth, exploration, and the work I strive to embrace in both my personal and professional life.
