Her Story

About Yahira

I'm coming on 3 years in the real estate industry, working primarily in property management and leasing. I'm still in the Air Force Reserve as well, so I've been in and out of orders throughout that time, which makes it a little difficult to manage a career in something like real estate when you're having to be gone months at a time, but I'm taking advantage of each opportunity. I work for a private owner right now, so essentially I'm looking at our vacancies and seeing which units are still needing to be filled, reaching out to prospects and getting tours for the home, making contact with individuals to schedule those tours. I also look at renewals for people who will be up for renewal on their lease, coordinate with maintenance to make sure that when we have those move-ins, everything's ready to go, as well as our third-party cleaners, and then do the inspections to make sure that they're move-in ready. I attend a real estate investor's meetup once a month called REI Central in Charleston, South Carolina. Right now, I'm trying to grow a real estate portfolio and gain that knowledge of how to creatively buy real estate and create a portfolio from creative avenues. What I mean by that is I'm trying to purchase homes not really using the conventional mortgage loan ways of obtaining one, just getting creative and growing a portfolio strategically and finding different avenues to do that.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Yahira

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say probably the drive that my mom has instilled in me, and then just also emulating those around me that have been in this business. The harder I work, the luckier I'll get. The more calls I make, the more appointments I make, I'm gonna end up lucky, but it's from the hard work.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The harder you work, the luckier you'll get. It's like a little phrase, but I think the more calls I make, the more appointments I make, I'm gonna end up lucky, but it's from the hard work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think just be consistent, be true to what you believe in, and use who you are to get you where you want to be. Just like I said, stay consistent with yourself and be true to yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, I would say personally, I'm trying to grow a real estate portfolio. So, you know, gaining that knowledge of how to creatively buy real estate and create a portfolio from creative avenues. What I mean by that is I'm trying to purchase homes not really using the conventional mortgage loan ways of obtaining one, just getting creative and growing a portfolio strategically and finding different avenues to do that.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Just being, just integrity, having integrity as a person. A lot of what I do is sales, and so, you know, just having integrity, having empathy and trying to do right by people is my biggest thing.
