Her Story
About Yajaira
I've been in technology for over 15 years. My career has not been linear but very diverse. I worked as an engineer in hands-on engineering research and product development, which is what I'm currently focusing on along with product and AI strategy. I also work on turning technical research into products that provide real value to users or organizations.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One piece of advice I heard recently that I'm trying to follow is to think a little bit less about what you should do and a little bit more about what lights you up, because sometimes it's hard to figure out what's your purpose or what really excites you about the work.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say stay in the race. Women or minorities face different challenges where we tend to be more qualified yet still have to prove ourselves and might be undermined or passed over. It's important not to give up because if you stay you're gonna learn how to manage these situations and navigate unfairness.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The speed at which AI technology is changing is very fast so keeping up with the technology and understanding where it works and where it doesn't requires continuous learning. Building technology responsibly at the pace AI is moving is key. There is also a lot of opportunity to make impact.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Excellence is one - I look for a level of excellence in everything I do. I also care a lot about fairness, equality, equity, respect, and inclusivity. I want to make sure I hear everyone's point of view because everyone has value to bring to the table.
