Her Story

About Yansi

Yansi Keim serves as an assistant professor at the Mestri School of Business within the State University of New York at Albany. With more than 10 years of experience in her field, she specializes in cybersecurity and maintains an active research agenda that often involves collaborating with others on multiple projects simultaneously. Keim earned her bachelor's degree in information technology, followed by a master's degree in information security management, and most recently completed her PhD in cybersecurity from Purdue in April of last year. In addition to her academic responsibilities, which include teaching undergraduate and graduate students as well as departmental and university service, she has held leadership roles in professional organizations. Notably, she received an award from Women in Cybersecurity in 2022 for her two and a half years of service as president of the local chapter at Purdue. She remains engaged with Women in Cybersecurity, Breaking Barriers Women in Cybersecurity (for which she has volunteered for three to four years), and Women in Security and Privacy. Keim credits her mentors and family for a large part of her success and values career advice that encourages building a cohesive pipeline of interconnected research projects rather than disparate efforts. She has also gained valuable experience through internships in non-traditional cybersecurity settings such as manufacturing and oil companies.
