Her Story
About Yashi
I started my journey in marketing after completing my background in computer engineering. I began my marketing analytics degree in 2023 and have been working in the field for close to one and a half years now. What inspired me to go into marketing was the campaigns - they excite me the most because they make decisions for users and customers. When you see advertisements and marketing efforts, that motivates you to choose a product and creates the brand image. I wanted to take my technical knowledge from computer engineering and apply it to a more important aspect of business. During my master's program, I had the most challenging but fun time because I was in a leadership role, working as a graduate assistant for one of the professors, and doing my co-op at the same company I'm working with right now. I had so many learning opportunities from great mentors both at my workplace and at the university. Through my leadership role, I was able to coordinate with so many people. I've also started exploring content creation as a personal project to understand the nuances of branding for myself. I did a 9-week project where I was shooting content and posting every single week, including travel vlogs, international student life, day in my life, and cooking vlogs. I try to do little new activities and take on something new every couple of months to learn new skills, because I am still new to marketing and feel that as much as you learn and have hands-on experience, it's going to help you in the future.

Ten minutes with Yashi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my family, my friends, and my mentors. I've been very fortunate to have had very good mentors at my university. My family, friends, mentors, and my university have all been instrumental in helping me get to where I am today. I've been lucky to have this strong support system throughout my journey in marketing.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
One thing I would say is try to network and talk to as many people as you can. If you are in your learning phase, like if you're in the process of studying, basically in a college or a university, I would say try and talk and gain as much advice as you can from your professors, because I feel they have immense knowledge to give you. Don't be afraid to lean on your support system and ask questions - it's okay to have mentors.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say honesty and being kind are most important to me. One thing which I really, really try to do and be very conscious about is not hurting somebody else while growing yourself. I would always say take your family with you wherever you go, like your family values. It is because of them you are there - it is just them, basically. I try to remember my family and where I come from, and include them with where I'm going in my growth.
