Her Story
About Yesenia
I've always wanted to sell cosmetics, either Avon or Mary Kay, and I started with Mary Kay in 2024. I advertise my business everywhere I go so everyone knows I'm really into it. What I love most about this work is putting makeup on - it just makes me feel way better inside. I'm really good at doing faces and I'm working toward hosting cosmetics parties where I can do makeovers for people, though I haven't done a whole bunch of people yet. What excites me about this business is the profit potential - whatever you spend on your inventory, you get back twice as much money. My mentor Josephine Villa Regonda from Texas has been a huge influence on me. She's always sold Mary Kay and was so patient with me, never pushed me to do it, but I saw her grow as a person and I really like how she is, which made me want to open up to her and follow in her footsteps.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is something I actually made into a quote for NAMI Walks that was on my shirt. It said something like 'past are what you becoming the future' - the idea that your past experiences shape who you're becoming in the future. That's my advice to people.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The value that's most important to me in my work is to always be friendly with people. You can be as friendly as you can be, and you're gonna do the right thing. It'll be good on your part. That's the thing I value most when I work - being friendly and treating people right.
