Her Story
About Yolanda
I've been in the investment field for almost 27 years, working in the margin and credit department. I started as a data entry processor and worked my way up through different roles. After working at Liz Claiborne for 6 years, I took a year-long course at the World Trade Center because I was always thrilled about Wall Street and the trading floor. I landed my dream job at a company I always wanted to work for, right next door to where I took my course. Over the years, I've done everything from data entry to client services to processing. I'm bilingual, which helped me in customer service roles. Now I'm a senior and they've given me the big profiles to handle. My typical day involves going into the system, handling outstanding work like making journals, moving money from one side to another, handling deliveries of stock from our country to other countries, and interacting with co-workers to help customers achieve what they need. Everything has to be settled and finished by the end of the day because every penny counts in this industry. What I love most is the customer interaction - customers feel very at ease when I get on the phone, and they know that when I get something under my belt, I will do it until the end and get it done and accomplished.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I will say, just, you know, go for it, never be too shy to do it, because the industry is very intimidating. But just go for it, and try your best, and give the most that you have. Your personality, your outgoing personality sometimes is not there, but it becomes with the industry - the industry makes you wiser, smarter on your money, very conscious of how you live, and how you have to save for your future. So, it means a lot to just pay attention and learn on everything that comes your way.
