Yuliya Cormier

I began my journey in higher education in 2013 after working in the admissions office during my undergraduate years at Sweet Briar College, an all-women's college in Sweet Briar, Virginia. I loved talking to potential students about their possibilities and their futures, and I knew I wanted to continue that work after graduation. I went on to work at several different institutions, including Converse College (which is now Converse University and has since become co-educational), where I continued to encourage students and get them excited about what lay ahead. After I had my first son, I took a step back from admissions because of the travel requirements and focused on being a new mom. But I was itching to get back into higher education, so when an opportunity opened up in career services, I jumped at it. It's very similar work - getting students excited about their futures - but on a different timeline. Now I work with students as they're finishing up their college careers and looking at potential careers after graduation, helping them figure out what they want to do, where to look for jobs, how to get connected, and how to network. It's been really great connecting with students, helping them through the process, and getting them excited about their future.
