Her Story
About Yuni
I’m a Data Science master’s student at the University of Colorado Boulder with hands-on experience across machine learning, robotics, and community leadership. I currently serve as President of the Taiwanese Student Association (TSA), where I lead cross-campus collaboration, event planning, and student advocacy. I also work as a Coursera course facilitator, supporting learners by guiding discussions and clarifying technical concepts.
In addition to my academic and leadership roles, I conduct research in a robotics lab, where I work on perception, learning, and real-world system development. I enjoy building practical, end-to-end solutions and collaborating across disciplines, and I’m passionate about using technology to create meaningful, human-centered impact.

Ten minutes with Yuni
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of persistence, curiosity, and a willingness to learn by building. I tend to approach challenges by breaking them down into solvable pieces, staying consistent even when progress feels slow, and continuously improving through hands-on practice. I’ve also benefited greatly from learning across disciplines and from mentors and communities that encourage growth, collaboration, and thoughtful problem-solving.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that starting is what moves you closer to your goal. Clarity comes through action.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to take the leap and move forward with confidence. Don’t wait for the perfect moment or full certainty — growth comes from trying, learning, and continuing even when things feel uncertain.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is bridging the gap between rapid advances in AI research and real-world deployment. While models are becoming more powerful, turning them into reliable, ethical, and scalable systems remains difficult. At the same time, this challenge presents a major opportunity to build AI solutions that are practical, interpretable, and truly impactful across industries such as healthcare and robotics.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are self-compassion, clarity of purpose, and wholehearted effort. I believe in not being too hard on myself and in recognizing that everyone moves at their own pace. What matters most is understanding why I do what I do and giving my best along the way. While no one is perfect, I believe we can choose to show kindness, courage, and empathy, and in doing so, make the world a better place.
