About Yurisa
Yurisa Garcia serves as a college counselor in Houston, Texas, where she has spent the past four years guiding students and families through the college application process. With six to seven years of experience in the field, she acts as the affordability champion on her campus, dedicating her efforts to researching scholarships, managing financial aid, and ensuring students have access to post-secondary pathways. A first-generation college graduate herself, Garcia earned a degree in Agriculture Economics from Texas A&M and a certification in international trade, which equipped her with a strong professional network that she leverages to support her community. She has contributed to her school's achievement of a 100% college acceptance rate for seniors and helped raise 21 million dollars in scholarships for students. Garcia founded the CSE Puede Scholarship nonprofit to further support educational opportunities, and she has received several honors including the Certificate of Honor from the Brazos Valley Educators Award in 2023, the Leadership and Selfless Service Award from the A&M Undergraduate Strategic Partnership, and the Award for Excellence in Attendance Management.
