Her Story

About Yvonne

I own my own photography business, Yaya Jones Photography, and I'm going into my fifth year. My journey into photography began when I became a mom. We had a newborn session at our home, and I was completely taken away by the photographer and how she was able to capture the most beautiful photos of our baby. I started watching photography videos while I was up late with my baby, and I kind of went down the rabbit hole. I really fell in love with it, and I decided to take a leap of faith and open my own business. Being a mom completely changed me, and it's the best thing I've ever done. I now have two daughters - Amelia, who'll be 6 in August, and Juniper, who just turned 3 in February. I have really done this on my own, without formal mentors, though I have other photographers that have inspired me. I'm proud to say that I am published - I have two publications that are active, and one that will be published this month, so I will be published three times. My work has appeared in Tiny Tales Magazine and She Shoots Magazine, an all-female, very inclusive magazine.

Ten minutes with Yvonne

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to give yourself grace, and to give yourself permission to experiment. The best thing that you can do is to just show up for yourself every day.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I believe in authenticity. I think it's the most important thing that you can do for yourself, and if you are authentic with yourself, then you're going to be authentic with your clients and in your business. I believe in transparency, and I believe in hard work. You don't just get given things, you have to put in the work for it. But if you do, and if you have a positive attitude, I also believe that you can manifest incredible things.
