Her Interview
Ten minutes with Yvonne
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being willing to be vulnerable and learn out loud. When I was developing my skills in e-learning, I shared my work and learning process publicly, even while I was still figuring things out. That openness allowed me to learn from others, build relationships, gain opportunities, and continue growing professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The most important lesson I have learned throughout my career is to remain curious, keep learning, and not be afraid to try something unfamiliar. My transition from education into e-learning taught me that I did not need to have everything figured out before taking the next step. I could build on the skills I already had while developing new technical abilities.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women not to assume that changing careers means starting over. The skills you develop in one profession—communication, creativity, organization, education, problem-solving, and understanding how people learn—can become powerful advantages in another. Be willing to learn publicly, experiment, ask questions, and share your work. You do not have to wait until you feel completely ready before creating opportunities for yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in e-learning is the growing emphasis on digital accessibility and inclusive learning experiences. As organizations increasingly rely on digital education and training, there is a greater need for professionals who understand both technology and how people learn.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity, accessibility, inclusion, education, family, independence, continuous learning, and personal freedom are especially important to me. Professionally, I believe learning experiences should be designed so that everyone has an opportunity to access and benefit from them. My commitment to accessibility allows me to combine my background as an educator with my technical skills.
