Her Story

About Zoraida

I've been in sales for over 9 years, and it's been an incredible journey. My whole life, people sought me out for sales, and I did MLM work on the side while working regular jobs. In 2017, a friend told me 'Zoraida, you're always selling something' and encouraged me to do it full-time on a bigger scale. I took the plunge and threw myself in - it was sink or swim - and it came pretty naturally. I started as an Account Manager with ProLine in New Jersey, managing that entire territory, visiting accounts, doing presentations, and growing the business. My first year, I earned an award for adding 100 accounts. I've received numerous awards throughout my time with the company, including Salesperson of the Year and highest sales ever in one quarter for a whole year. During the pandemic in 2020, I sold a quarter of a million dollars in one month. I grew into a trainer role and became a regional sales leader representing Philly, New Jersey, New York, and traveling everywhere from Massachusetts to Maryland to help other team members. I presented at conventions and events, using all my different skills - training, leading, and selling - under one umbrella. As an independent contractor, nobody was micromanaging me, so I had to get up and hustle every day. I'm very competitive, so it was always a challenge to beat my numbers and get higher sales. In April, I took on a new role as Brand Services Manager for Vanguard Cleaning Systems in the RTP area of North Carolina. I'm not doing exclusive sales anymore but applying my expertise to service-based work. I can walk into a location with an expert eye and see what's not being done right chemically and where we can offer extra services. I consider myself a multifaceted person, and I don't always exclusively do just one thing. It's been a fun, growing experience, and I've really enjoyed it.

Ten minutes with Zoraida

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The thing that I've heard the most is just to always persevere through adversity. That has always kept me focused forward, never getting stuck on anything that's currently a challenge. Being able to push through, because everything that's going on in the present that may be challenging is just something temporary. It's not something that's gonna drag you down. So, for me, it's always keeping my eyes focused on the prize.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge is to kind of hold back a little bit, because I'm so used to selling, and just kind of learning to navigate a new field, a new company, just kind of looking at how they have their structure, and being in a new area. I'm in North Carolina now in the RTP area, so it's basically just learning more about the area that I'm in and becoming a little bit more familiar with technology and things like that. The good part has been that I can come in with already an expert eye at being able to walk into a location and see, chemically speaking, what's not being done right, why things still look dirty or don't look properly cared for. I can see where we can do extra services here and offer them different things. And then, of course, it's just the fact that I'm not selling a product, I'm selling a service. So, I can still use my same skills and things like that. Overall, it hasn't been catastrophic or super challenging in any other way. It's just been kind of like making a sandwich, so to speak.
