The Introduction That Changed Her Career
How one connection opened a door she never knew existed.
How one connection opened a door she never knew existed.
One introduction can change the trajectory of a career, but the real transformation comes from what you do with the door someone opens. Some of the most pivotal people in my life didn't give me the destination, they helped me see a possibility I hadn't yet seen for myself.
One connection can change the entire direction of your life. Someone saw potential in me before I fully recognized it for myself, opened a door I wasn't expecting, and that opportunity taught me that sometimes the most important career moves aren't planned, they begin with someone simply believing you belong in the room.
I was working as an administrative assistant when a profound personal loss took me through what I can only describe as a dark night of the soul. The therapist who helped save my life during that season became the unexpected catalyst for both my healing and my decision to become a mental health therapist myself.
In 2024, I was selected to attend the SHPE National Convention through work, even though I had originally applied hoping to attend a different conference. I almost saw it as a disappointment, but I returned the following year as a volunteer, where a chance conversation with the Global President of Latinos at Amazon about my passion for mentoring students and creating opportunities eventually led to an invitation to join the Board of Directors. What started as an opportunity I hadn't even wanted became a way for me to expand the impact I was already trying to make and help create opportunities for others on a much larger scale.
After years of not feeling enough, or worthy, losing my identity, carrying everyone else's emotional burdens that weren't even mine to carry, wondering lost, and just wondering why I never felt whole on the inside. I went on a healing journey to find myself and let God show me who I am and what it actually feels like to receive unconditional love that I was so desperately seeking outside of myself in others and in other things. This journey helped me realize that most of us have built our identity on illusions, distortions, and everything but the truth. This made me want to share and help others, especially women, find and understand themselves, use their voice and to encourage them that no matter what you've endured in your life you can overcome anything you put your mind to and become who you're truly meant to be, your true authentic self. You matter and so does your voice.
