Dr. Sally Campbell is a seasoned leader and strategic consultant with nearly four decades of experience guiding organizations through transformative change. As President of S.A. Campbell Associates since 1986, she has worked extensively in long-range planning, management consulting, and health risk assessment, helping both private and public sector clients navigate complex challenges. Her expertise spans industries, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, particularly in air quality and environmental standards. Sally has also contributed her skills to major industrial installations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local air pollution regulations.

Before founding her consulting firm, Dr. Campbell served as Technical Director for Atmospheric Services at Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin), where she led air quality research and managed teams delivering strategic environmental consulting for government and industry. She holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Nuclear Chemistry from the University of Maryland and an M.A. in Management and Organizational Development from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. A Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP), Sally is also an active member of professional organizations like AWMA, APS, and AAAS, where she has served in leadership roles including Vice Chair of the Ethics Committee. Her lifelong commitment to improving organizations—along with her volunteer work supporting social service agencies—reflects a deep dedication to both innovation and integrity.

The best career advice I’ve ever received was to stay focused and work hard to achieve your goals—because when you commit fully, not only can you build a meaningful career, but you might also meet lifelong partners along the way, as I did with my husband of 30 years.

My advice to young women entering this industry is: You can do it—your work in improving air quality truly makes a meaningful difference for our environment and future.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field are the constant changes and advancements in environmental science and regulations; although I am retired, I make it a point to stay informed and up to date.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are a commitment to lifelong learning and staying informed, which I continue to uphold even in retirement by regularly reading scientific publications.
