Why We Sell Ourselves Short At Work: We Don't Know Our Talents
Women, more than men, have a tendency to end up in careers that are misaligned with our talents. We all have natural talents, gifts, aptitudes, and inclinations, but the problem is that few of us can put them into words. Without this knowledge - and vocabulary - it's impossible to promote ourselves in an interview or advocate for ourselves to get that next promotion. We either make stuff up about and hope we're right, or we keep quiet and never land the new opportunity. Using the science of aptitudes as the guide, Alex Ellison, author, TEDx and SXSW speaker, and founder of Throughline Guidance, will discuss how to spot talents hiding in plain sight and harness them at work - and in life. You'll uncover your unique style of problem solving, interacting, energizing, and planning, and you'll walk away with tips for tapping fully into your gifts.
Alex Ellison launched her independent consulting practice in 2013 under the name Dunce, LLC, just to add some levity to what can be a stressful topic: college & career planning. She is the author of Go Your Own Way: 7 Student-Centered Paths to the Best College Experience and the creator of the Go Your Own Way Student Archetype Quiz used in schools and by individuals to jump-start their college search.
