My story began early. My mother, a single parent, always found a way to make things happen; she was a leader to me. I entered the petrochemical industry at 24 as a process technician, knowing very little about what I was walking into. Over the years, I grew and learned on the job.
Being a woman in this field is hard — you’re a minority and often seen only as that. I quickly proved my worth through hard work; work ethic shows itself only through action. After ten years and many opportunities to gain experience in other roles, I’m now in management and committed to continue learning and growing. Most of what we learn here is taught on the job or passed down by experienced coworkers, and I’m grateful I took a leap of faith and kept pushing to do more because I knew I was capable.
The sky is the limit. I want to give other young women in the industry hope and drive to do the same. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because you’re a woman. Women bring different perspectives and strengths, and we can make decisions and lead just as effectively as anyone else.
