An “Influential Woman” in Spoken Word
An influential woman—where is she?
There she is, resting behind the oak tree.
For her, rest is necessary for upright judgment,
for she is always giving in the act of social justice.
She is kind and sweet, but you must take time to know her,
for her influence is powerful—and often misunderstood.
Many have despised her.
She is not always aware of the power she possesses,
for humility is her guide,
and influence knows when to rest.
She knows her audience
and understands how to remain true,
because being influential requires honesty as a tool.
In perilous times, she relies on hope,
for the very people she serves depend on her help.
Influence is a gift indeed,
and women all around the world carry this seed.
An influential woman is innovative—
this is what makes her stand out
and inspires others to develop their own art.
I am grateful for my rewarding life journey,
though it has not been easy.
Influencers are developed, not born,
and they require patience and tenacity.
Through all seasons, I smile and say my prayers at night.
I wake the next morning,
wondering what the day will bring.
“You are an influential woman,” someone once told me,
and because of that, I know—
something must be working.
A Doctor of Social Work, I have been conferred.
The past is over,
and now, I am ready to fly like a bird.
