Oftentimes, the question is asked, "Why didn't you leave the abusive relationship?" The reality is that survivors have to make decisions based on their present circumstances while also thinking about the future of their children. They must consider how every decision will affect their children—not only in the moment, but for years to come.

Instead of asking, "Why didn't you leave?" perhaps the better question is, "What can I do to best support you while you figure things out?"
