BREAKING THE SILENCE was necessary for me to be loosed to serve the broken!

In the heart of every person who is sexually attracted to children may be a wounded or lost child. Something deeply harmful may have happened during their own childhood that contributed to distorted boundaries, unhealthy behaviors, and an inability to function appropriately within the adult world.

Deep emotional wounds may have resulted from growing up with angry, alcoholic, or drug-addicted parents, or from experiencing sexual abuse themselves. Such trauma can contribute to struggles with power and control, rage, fear, isolation, rejection, and intimidation.

Some individuals who sexually abuse children may seek out children because they perceive them as easier to manipulate, control, or gain acceptance from. However, child sexual abuse is never caused by the child, and childhood trauma does not excuse or justify sexually abusive behavior. Adults are responsible for their actions and for protecting children from harm.

Understanding the possible roots of abusive behavior can be important for prevention and intervention, but it must never come at the expense of accountability or the safety of children.
