"Built From Rock Bottom: An Immigrant Woman’s Rise to Purpose, Power, and Legacy”

By Elvie Garcia – Owner of West Hill Home Care, Advocate for Immigrant Women

I wasn’t supposed to make it.

At least, not according to the odds.

I came to this country from the Philippines with no wealth, no connections, and no clear roadmap — just a heart full of dreams and a deep knowing that my life was meant to mean something.

I wasn’t handed success.

I built it through heartbreak, hard work, and an unshakable belief that even someone like me — a young immigrant woman with scars, stories, and a stubborn soul — could build something that mattered.

The Road Wasn’t Easy

I’ve lived through pain that could have destroyed me.

I’ve been betrayed by people I trusted the most.

I’ve cried on the floor with bills I couldn’t pay and dreams I couldn’t explain to anyone around me.

But I chose to rise.

I took every broken piece of my past — the abandonment, the disappointment, the silence — and used it as bricks to build something powerful.

Today, I am the proud owner of West Hill Home Care, an adult family home built with compassion, culture, and a calling to serve.

But this business is not just about care —

It’s about dignity.

It’s about home.

It’s about creating a space where people feel safe, loved, and honored in their final chapter of life.

My Mission

I want every elder in my care to know they are not forgotten.

And I want every immigrant woman to know she is not limited.

I’m here to say:

You can be hurt and still be powerful.

You can come from nothing and still build everything.

You can be a caregiver and a CEO.

You can have an accent and still be the voice of change.

My Vision

I dream of a world where more immigrant women rise up — not just to survive, but to thrive.

I want to coach, mentor, and empower women like me to start their own care businesses, tell their stories, and walk boldly in rooms where no one expects them to be.

Because when one of us rises, we all rise.

Why I’m Speaking Out Now

I’ve stayed quiet long enough.

I used to think my story was too painful to share.

Now I know — it’s too powerful to keep hidden.

I’m here for the women who feel invisible.

I’m here for the immigrants who are exhausted but won’t give up.

I’m here to break generational silence and build generational wealth.

I’m here to remind the world:

We are not weak. We are warriors.

And this is just the beginning of my legacy.
