Chapter 5: The Leap (Page 4)

The hardest part wasn’t the money or the sleepless nights—it was standing my ground when everyone told me it couldn’t be done.

I made sure I was there for every single step. Every contractor who walked through that door, every inspector with a clipboard—I faced them all. I asked questions, took notes, and made sure nothing happened without me knowing.

There were days when it felt like the system was designed to break me. Permits piled up like mountains, and at one point, we faced an issue with the imposter permit. Tim and Renea from the city were on the phone, and I had to fight for my dream with nothing but my voice and my faith.

I explained every detail. I walked them through my plan. I said, “Look, this is what it looks like now, and this is why it meets your requirement. This is my logic, and I stand by it.”

Then came the biggest battle—with the contractor. He told me I needed to tear down the walls and redo everything. His tone was firm, almost final. But something inside me refused to accept it.

I looked him in the eye and said, “Why? Show me your logic. Because here’s mine.” I walked him through every corner of that house, explaining why the design worked, why the permits allowed it, why this home would not fail inspection.

And you know what? I prevailed. Not because I had all the answers, but because I refused to give up.

That day, I learned something:

Dreams don’t just require hard work—they require courage to stand up for what you believe in, even when the experts tell you no.

And when the final inspector came, clipboard in hand, and said the words I had prayed for:

“You passed.”

I stepped outside, looked at the house standing proud and ready, and the tears came hard. Not because it was over, but because it was just beginning.

West Hill Home Care LLC was no longer a dream.

It was real.

And it was mine.
