Claiming My Path
Owning It
More than fifteen years ago, I entered the insurance industry with no prior experience, starting in customer service and learning as I went. Like so many of us, I did not have a defined roadmap—just a willingness to show up, work hard, and grow. What I have learned along the way is that no two careers look the same, and that is exactly what makes each path meaningful.
The early years taught me the fundamentals: listening closely, solving problems, and understanding the importance of trust. Those lessons became the foundation for everything that followed. As my career evolved, so did I—through challenges, shifts in roles, and opportunities that required confidence I had not yet realized I possessed.
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is the importance of owning my journey. Comparison can be tempting, especially in an industry filled with talented professionals, but growth truly accelerated when I stopped measuring my progress against others and started valuing my own experiences. Embracing my identity—both personally and professionally—was vital to that growth. It allowed me to lead with authenticity, build stronger relationships, and make decisions aligned with who I am.
The insurance industry has changed over the years, and so have I. What has not changed is the value of resilience, curiosity, and self-belief. Every path is unique. Owning yours, honoring where you started, and trusting where you are headed can make all the difference.
