Connections Matter Now More Than Ever

How a landscape design veteran is bridging industry silos through connection and collaboration.

Connections Matter Now More Than Ever

For nearly 20 years, Angelique Robb worked in an industry that quietly shapes how we live: landscape design, construction, and long-term maintenance.

It's creative. It's technical. It's demanding.

And, as she discovered firsthand, it's deeply disconnected.

"I didn't just design projects," Robb says. "I carried them all the way through—from the first concept to years later, when they needed to be maintained or repaired. That gave me a perspective most people don't get."

Running her own design, build, and maintenance business in the UK, Robb sat at the intersection of every phase of a project. She saw where ideas translated beautifully—and where they broke down. She experienced the friction between teams that were all highly skilled yet rarely aligned.

"The issue was never a lack of talent," she explains. "It was that everyone was working in silos. Designers, contractors, and maintenance professionals were all solving different parts of the same problem—but without a clear way to communicate with each other."

The Invisible Work Women Often Carry

As the business owner, Robb became the connector.

She translated between sectors. She anticipated breakdowns. She carried the responsibility of making everything work together.

"It made me incredibly good at what I did," she says. "But it also made me question why the system relied so heavily on individuals to hold it together."

It's a dynamic many women will recognize: being the one who bridges gaps, manages complexity, and ensures things run smoothly behind the scenes.

But for Robb, that realization became a turning point.

"There's a difference between constantly fixing problems and deciding to build something that removes them altogether."

Building SYNKD: From Operator to Founder

That decision led to SYNKD. Founded by Robb, SYNKD is a media platform designed to connect the landscape design, construction, and maintenance sectors, creating a shared space for communication, education, and collaboration.

But at its core, SYNKD is about something bigger than content.

"It's about clarity," Robb explains. "People in this industry are busy. They're under pressure. They don't have time to chase information or translate between sectors on every project. We're building a tool that helps them stay aligned without adding more to their plate."

Through editorial content, live events, and industry-driven conversations, SYNKD brings together voices that have historically operated in isolation, making collaboration more accessible and more effective.

A Different Kind of Leadership

What makes Robb's approach distinct is her lived experience. She didn't enter the industry as a strategist or observer—she built her career within it, navigating the realities of budgets, timelines, construction challenges, and long-term maintenance.

"I've felt the pressure from every side," she says. "That's why I understand where things break down—and where the opportunity is."

That perspective has shaped a leadership style rooted in connection rather than control—one that prioritizes bringing people together over working in competition.

Why This Story Goes Beyond One Industry

While SYNKD is focused on the landscape sector, Robb's vision resonates far beyond it.

"So many industries are made up of incredibly capable people working in fragmented systems," she says. "We don't need more effort—we need better alignment."

Her work reflects a broader shift happening across business: a move toward collaboration, shared knowledge, and more intentional ways of working.

Redefining What It Means to Build

For Robb, founding SYNKD isn't a departure from her career—it's an evolution of it.

"I'm still solving the same problems I've always solved," she says. "I'm just doing it at a different scale."

And that scale matters.

Because when industries communicate better, they don't just become more efficient—they become more sustainable, more innovative, and, ultimately, more human.
