...every picture tells a story
A lifelong artist and children's book illustrator sharing the transformative power of creativity and self-belief.
Sharon Lane Holm, Illustrator
Everyone is an artist, and we all have to start somewhere.
Every story deserves to be told. Start where you are.
I Always Say, "I Can Draw You a Story."
I've been an artist since the third grade. It has been my passion for my entire lifeāboth professionally and personally.
Professionally, I have worked as a successful children's picture book illustrator for more than 35 years. I am also a work-in-progress author.
I created and implemented a successful children's literacy course, which I taught for nine years in New Fairfield, Connecticut. I wanted to share my knowledge and love of art with students in third through fifth grade.
I wanted them to open their minds and learn to look at life from a different perspective.
As part of the course, they created their own children's picture books using the same process professional illustrators use. At the end of each project, we held a publisher's party to celebrate and share their masterpieces with their families.
One of the lessons I wanted them to learn was that it takes practice, passion, and patience to create something meaningful. It's a lesson I still work on myself.
I also made it a point to tell them never to let anyone say they couldn't do something. More importantly, don't ever tell yourself that you can't.
Because you can.
I did.
Making Art Teaches You to Think
Art is an expression of your feelings and of who you are. It teaches you how to create and offers a way to share your soul. It comes from within.
Inspiration is everywhere.
Life is a magical journey.
Believe in yourself.
Make more art.
Sketchbooks are magic.
Be weird.
Inspire others.
Share your voice.
Don't worry about the finished project.
Lose yourself in the process.
Color outside the lines.
Because every picture tells a story.
