Birth of United Matriarchy Nations

Matriarchal culture has existed for over 1 million years. Matriarchy is a form of social organization in which the mother or oldest female is the head of the family, and status is reckoned through the female line. Today, many women struggle with living under a patriarchal society that silences their actions, voices, and culture.

United Matriarchy Nations founder, Lynn Tang, began her journey of preserving matriarchal culture while producing the award winning film On Matriarchy Lake. On Matriarchy Lake highlights the cultural customs of Mosuo, a matriarchal community located in Southwest China.

The production of this film gave United Matriarchy Nations, or UMN, the empowerment needed to lead this mission. The founders of UMN realized how important matriarchal culture could be in encouraging equal treatment for both men and women worldwide.

The UMN is open to all genders wanting to build a community that feels safe, empowered, and liberated from the patriarchy. The United Matriarchy Nations aims to help create this community. Our organization plans to build a livable community where men and women of all ages can choose to escape the dominant patriarchal system. We believe in offering everyone the equal opportunity to live freely, without the restraints of a system that doesn't serve them. This is why the UMN is currently working to develop a community in Evanston, Wyoming.

The United Matriarchy Nations also has plans to support and uplift matriarchal communities outside of the United States. Our nonprofit plans to advance the technology skills and digital literacy of matriarch members worldwide. This will provide remote work, expanding their job opportunities while allowing them to stay in their communities.

Pressure to change the patriarchy system and its ways will only happen if we take action. This is why our organization hopes to balance the gap between men and women worldwide and advance towards a society that uplifts each and every one of its citizens.
