From Starting Over to Standing Tall: A Journey of Courage, Resilience, and Leadership
From Struggle to Strength: How One Woman Built a Better Future Against the Odds
I came to the United States when I was 20 years old. I had been living in Mexico, and I moved here after marrying someone who lived in the U.S. Like many people who begin a new chapter in a different country, I had to learn, adapt, and build a life from the ground up.
My first jobs in the U.S. were cleaning, baking, and working retail at the mall. I did whatever I needed to do while trying to create a better future. Starting over in a new country was not easy. I was learning to navigate a new environment, building confidence, and, at times, struggling with the feeling that I wasn't enough - especially because of my accent and the fear that came with being different.
The moment that changed my life
The moment that changed my life came when my son was only two years old. I was a single mother working at the mall during the holiday season, and he was staying at a 24-hour daycare while I worked. One day, he opened the door and wandered outside because he was looking for me. When I received the call, my heart stopped. I left work immediately because my son needed me.
That moment made me realize I needed to change my path. I wanted a career that would allow me to grow, provide stability for my son, and create a different future. That's when I began my journey in the call center industry with Bank of America.
I was fortunate to have a manager who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. He encouraged me, supported me, and helped me see potential in myself that I couldn't always see.
Success isn't a finish line
Today, I'm proud of how far I've come, but I also know my journey isn't finished. I still have dreams and goals I want to accomplish. Success isn't a finish line - it's having the courage to keep moving forward.
If there is one message I want every woman to remember, it is this: Believe in yourself. Have courage. Don't let fear, your past, where you come from, or what makes you different stop you. Failure is part of the journey, but you have to keep going. Sometimes the things we think make us weaker become the very things that make us stronger.
