Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable How a 19 year old Did the Unimaginable and Rose to #1 Twice

Madison L. Goodman is a 19-year-old author and disability advocate whose work blends emotional honesty with a fierce commitment to representation. While navigating her freshman year in Stonehill College's Honors Program, she independently built a five-book young adult social issues series that reached multiple #1 Amazon rankings, sparking meaningful conversations about neurodiversity, trauma literacy, and youth and women's empowerment.

She began writing her debut novel, Unseen and Unheard: The Battle for Respect and Understanding, as a high school senior and published it independently immediately after graduation. Over the next eleven months, she expanded that single idea into Gemma's Journey, a full intellectual property catalog exploring autism, trauma, resilience, and self-advocacy.

Her titles quickly gained momentum. Rising Phoenix debuted as both the #1 Bestseller and #1 Top New Release in Teen & Young Adult Suicide & Social Issues, while Ignite repeated the achievement, earning #1 rankings in Performing Arts and Girls & Women.

Her rapid rise wasn't accidental—it was engineered through metadata optimization, wide distribution, and strategic community engagement. Madison executed a high-traffic Barnes & Noble book signing in Wareham, selling out individual titles and recording 29 physical book sales in a single afternoon. She expanded her reach through global library distribution via OverDrive, surpassed the 100-sales milestone, and maintained a 5-star organic review average.

Her work also earned regional media recognition, including a full-length feature in Nemasket Week highlighting her writing journey and disability rights advocacy.

Behind these accomplishments, however, was a defining leadership moment that shaped her career.

Madison made the difficult decision to restructure her support system and operate independently—a choice that required ending a partnership that no longer aligned with her values or the direction of her advocacy.

"Outgrowing something is a natural part of leadership," she says. "That decision taught me to trust my vision, take ownership of my career, and build systems that support long-term impact rather than short-term comfort."

Today, Madison continues to write, speak, and advocate for authentic representation in youth literature. Her work empowers young readers to feel seen, understood, and supported as they navigate their identities and lived experiences.

Through storytelling and public outreach, she challenges stigma, advances disability awareness, and demonstrates that leadership often begins with the courage to choose the uncomfortable path—and to grow because of it.
