If Your Home Could Speak

What Are You Feeding Your Home?

Have you ever walked up to the front door of someone’s home, and you notice, in surprise, that it’s in obvious need of care (or possibly a bulldozer)? Crispy plants surrounding you are not dying because they were pronounced dead years ago. Dogs, cats, and other critters have left smelly care packages along the path, garbage is sprawled out everywhere. Cobwebs surround the porch, and spiders are poised and ready to drop onto you. Your skin tickles with goosebumps, and you’re relieved it’s not spiders.

Judging from the outside appearance, you have a pretty clear idea of what the home looks like on the inside, and you would prefer it if no one answers the knock at the door.

How about the home that has a meticulous and well-groomed yard and home? Everything seems to drip with homeowners’ pride. You start to knock on the door, and you sense an uneasy feeling, goosebumps on your skin, and you’re uncertain why you feel the way you do. That was the home I lived in growing up. The home was a lovely ranch-style house surrounded by vineyards and stunning mountain views. It beamed with homeowner pride…yet, it carried within it a heaviness, a dark feeling, regardless of all the windows.

Why do some homes carry lingering spirits, stagnant, imbalanced energy, or the energies of past owners or renters? And, most importantly, can these energies be cleared? The answer is…Yes, absolutely they can. So, how do we clear these heavy, unwelcome energies and sustain in our homes and lives a positive flow of energy?

The expression “we are what we eat” — and how true this statement is. Well…it’s the same with our home…Our home is what we feed it. It reflects past owners, past renters, and heavy energies that have not been properly cleansed from the space, all of which have been feeding our home. Additionally, what are we doing on a daily basis that is feeding more negativity into our home? It’s vital we know that these energetic imbalances have had a direct impact on us, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I’d like to briefly explain the simplistic beauty of vibrational energy and its effect in our environment, in our homes.

One of my sons, as a teenager, was a heavy metal guitarist…he called it music…I silently suffered and thought my nerves would blast off to the moon! It made me think of a Claymation short film that I had watched in the 2nd grade that left an indelible print in my mind. The scene opens in a lush green forest and a spacious meadow with a babbling creek flowing through it. The birds sang lovely melodies, the rabbits played, and deer sipped water from the creek. Meanwhile, a rock and roll band set up their equipment, amplifiers, etc.…Then was the noise! The crashing, loud noise! The lyrics screamed out were incomprehensible. The animals’ behavior was frantic; they freaked out and fled their peaceful home.

Scientists were able to prove and demonstrate the visible effects of vibration called cymatics. Two of those were Dr. Emoto and Leonardo da Vinci.

Emoto knew in his soul that even silent, unspoken words carried vibration, and he was able to prove it when technology advanced. In the 15th century, Leonardo da Vinci discovered dust settling into peculiar shapes and patterns on his wooden table from vibrations striking the table.

Cymatics shows up in the animal and plant kingdom as well; for instance, a turtle’s markings on their shells take on either a chaotic or a lovely design, depending on its home environment.

The human body has between 30 and 40 trillion cells. These cells react to our environment.

Which brings us to…what are you feeding your home?

So, let’s break it down step by step. You may consider asking yourselves some of these questions: Is the energy we give to social media supporting or uplifting information? Or is it filled with anger, horror, murder, war, encouraging adultery, overeating, pornography, alcoholism, drug abuse? Etc.…

How about the music we listen to? Is it joyful and uplifting? Is it tranquil and calming? How about the lyrics; are they supportive, uplifting? Or do they leave us feeling sad, depressed, or possibly angry?

Are we feeding our home with daily clutter, dirty dishes, dirty bathrooms, messy bedrooms, dirty laundry piled up from last week, cobwebs taking over, unpleasant odors, plants starving for water, or in need of a burial? Etc.…

If we buy consignment clothing or furniture, I’m a firm believer in supporting recycling…Just keep in mind that we need to clear the objects prior to bringing them into our homes. How do we energetically clear clothing or anything else we purchase? Sitting outside in fresh air for 24 to 48 hours. Burn sage around the items while you perform a repetitive prayer around the items: “Any energies attached to this, leave now and leave in peace.” If articles of clothing, launder them after the process is completed.

We touched on the energies in our home and what we are feeding it…what about ourselves personally? What are we feeding ourselves?

What about the unfortunate trap of addictions? Cell phones, sex, food, sugar, medication, vapes, cigarettes, alcohol, recreational drugs, pornography, gambling…etc.…

When we “use,” and after our buzz, our energy becomes bogged down and sluggish. We feel and look terrible; therefore, we strive for the next fix, the next buzz.

One time, around the age of 9 years old, I was inner tubing down a river in a marvelous old mining community called Downieville. My legs were dangling over the side; the water’s current pulled me forward when I noticed ahead of me a small whirlpool swirling. However, it wasn’t going with the natural flow of the water; it stayed in one space. Soon it was beside me and then behind me as I floated past it. It made me think of a mouse on a wheel. Addictions affect us similarly. We halt our spiritual evolution, deplete our energy, and we give ourselves a false sense of movement.

Addictions affect us all differently. We may be gripped with fear, anger, sorrow, self-loathing, suicidal thoughts, and so forth…These emotions are spilling out of us and into our homes.

Okay…so how about our physical home? Where do we start?

Let’s start with one room in our house…Even though every room in our home is vital to be organized and clean, the most important is…our bedroom. Mainly because it’s where our body needs a peaceful, relaxing environment, which supports our sleep and restores us for the following day.

No two bedrooms are alike…right? Some rooms have clothes sprawled out or piled high. Some people get the clothes to wear from off the floor. Some people have clothes that haven’t seen the light of day for 5 years because they’re stuffed under the bed.

Some bedrooms have televisions, laptops, computers, and cell phones occupying space in their room. How about bills, paperwork, and business-related paperwork? Are your nightstands packed with books you don’t have time to read?

Are the floors un-vacuumed and dust taking over? How about dead or dying plants? Do you have trinkets or pictures that support healing and rest…or are they possibly pictures of deceased ancestors or gifts that you don’t like but you keep them so the person who gave them to you doesn’t get their feelings hurt?

Let’s get started with our attitude first, shall we? This needs to be fun, so put on fun music that makes you smile, want to dance, kind of music. Have an enthusiastic attitude. The cleansing process takes time. So why not have fun while doing it…right?

Try not to feel overwhelmed with an OMG! This isn’t a chore; it’s a major undertaking attitude. You focus on only one thing that you want to work on first! And you only do that one area of your room and nothing else. The following day, focus on the next area of your bedroom. For instance, if it’s clothing, make 4 separate piles.

  1. Wash.
  2. Donate.
  3. Throw away.
  4. Hang up or put away.

In the meantime, keep clothes from piling up again by putting them away.

Walls should be a color that emits a peaceful, relaxing feeling...such as hues of blues and greens. Not bright yellows or reds, which also includes bedspreads, sheets, and pillows. Remove pictures that do not emit a peaceful feeling. Donate gifts that you don't like, only to avoid hurting someone's feelings. Vacuum, mop, dust, and remove spider webs.

After your project is completed, for some, it may take just a few hours; for others, a week or more. It’s important to stay on top of it daily so that it doesn’t become a burden again. Then…you start on the next room in your home.

When you enter your room, you will enjoy the experience of “ahhhh” rather than “OMG!” “I don’t want to sleep in this scary mess!”

Circling back, when I mentioned the home I grew up in...the lovely ranch-style house surrounded by vineyards and stunning mountain views. It beamed with homeowner pride…yet, it carried within it a heaviness, a dark feeling, regardless of all the windows. Why do some homes carry lingering spirits, stagnant, imbalanced energy, or the energies of past owners or renters? And, most importantly, can these energies be cleared? How do we clear these heavy, unwelcome energies and sustain a healthy atmosphere within our homes and our lives?
