If Life Gives Us Rollercoasters
Embracing Life's Ups and Downs: How to Navigate Life's Rollercoaster with Resilience and Growth
A very popular phrase goes: “If life gives us lemons…” My twist on this phrase is: “If life gives us rollercoasters…”
Life’s natural course is a rollercoaster in itself. We experience busy, high seasons as well as low seasons and pauses. What matters most is how we respond to each season and what we do during each one. Are we maintaining integrity consistently through the ups and downs?
Are we maintaining momentum? Are we setting goals and focusing on areas of strength? Are we focused on the lesson or the potential solution?
When we choose to approach life’s challenges as a rollercoaster ride, we can better prepare for what’s to come, build resilience along the way, and shift our expectations. Challenges are opportunities to learn and grow. With every challenge, there is a lesson.
Changing our perspective and response when faced with challenges can be life-transforming and empowering. High seasons can be especially challenging, particularly in fast-paced, dynamic work environments or life stages.
By being ready to brace for impact during high seasons and practicing self-awareness by resting, recovering, and recalibrating during low seasons, we can better prepare for life’s rollercoaster ride. It becomes less difficult when we view it as ongoing training for life’s seasons.
The next time we find ourselves on the rollercoaster, let’s see it this way:
- Ups — prioritizing and following through
- Downs — recovering and preparing
- Twists — adapting and pivoting
- Accelerations — maintaining stamina and consistency
- Loops — identifying patterns and strategizing
- Pauses — self-reflection and growth
Whether in our professional journey or our personal life, let’s remind ourselves that life is a rollercoaster after all. Let’s embrace the challenges and choose to enjoy the ride.
