Standing Together: How Community Unity Strengthens Rhode Island Through Challenging Times

In Difficult Times, Standing Together Is Our Greatest Strength

In every corner of our state, you can find people doing everything they can to get through difficult times. Families are working harder than ever to make ends meet. Small businesses are fighting to stay afloat in a changing economy. Community organizations are stretched thin as they meet the growing needs of our neighbors.

And yet, through all of this, one thing remains certain:

When we stand together, we are stronger.

Rhode Island has always been a place where community matters. It’s who we are. When someone falls behind, we don’t look away — we show up. We share resources, we lend a hand, we look out for one another’s kids, and we work to ensure our neighborhoods thrive.

Difficult moments test us, but they also reveal our character. And right now, what our communities need most is unity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to working together.

That means supporting the small businesses that anchor our local economy.

It means investing in workforce development so people can access better, more stable jobs.

It means ensuring families can afford healthcare, childcare, and housing.

And it means listening — truly listening — to the voices of those who are too often ignored or left behind.

I’ve seen firsthand what happens when we come together with a shared purpose. We solve problems. We lift one another up. We create solutions that reflect the real needs of our communities — not just what looks good on paper.

This moment calls on all of us — neighbors, business owners, community leaders, elected officials — to strengthen the ties that hold us together. To remember that progress isn’t about one person or one policy. It’s about what we build when we stand side by side.

Rhode Island is at its best when we choose collaboration over division, hope over fear, and community over everything else. If we continue to show up for one another, we won’t just get through tough times — we’ll come out stronger, more connected, and more resilient than ever.

Because when we stand together, there is nothing our communities cannot overcome.
