In the AI era where efficiency and productivity seem to be the most important, don't forget

I believe the strongest leaders build results through people. Strategy, analytics, financial discipline, and execution are important, but they only create lasting impact when people are aligned, motivated, and committed to the work. At the core of my leadership approach are relationships, trust, humility, perseverance, and a genuine commitment to taking care of people.

Relationships come first: invest time in understanding people—their perspectives, strengths, concerns, and what motivates them. Leadership is not about having all the answers; it is about listening, asking the right questions, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable sharing their ideas and challenging conventional thinking. Strong relationships allow teams to navigate difficult decisions more effectively because there is a foundation of trust.

Trust is built through consistency and transparency. It's critical to be clear about where we are going, why it matters, and what is expected of each person—and to be honest when the path is uncertain. People do not need a leader to have every answer; they need a leader they can count on to communicate openly, make thoughtful decisions, and stand behind the team. Especially during periods of change, a leader's role is to create clarity where possible, acknowledge what is difficult, and help people move forward with confidence.

Humility is another important part—leaders shouldn't have the loudest voice in the room. Some of the best ideas come from people closest to the customer, the product, or the day-to-day work. All of the team's perspectives matter. Leaders should be comfortable changing their minds when new information emerges, and saying "I don't know" creates space for others to contribute. But it's important for leaders to make the difficult decisions and take accountability for the outcome so that teams ultimately have a path to move forward.

Lastly, perseverance matters, particularly when things don't go according to plan. Throughout my career, I have often stepped into unfamiliar situations, taken on new challenges, and helped teams navigate change. Progress rarely happens in a straight line—it requires curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to keep working at a problem until you find a better path. I encourage my teams to view challenges as opportunities to learn rather than reasons to retreat.

Looking across my career, I am proud of the brands I have built, businesses I have grown, and transformations I have led. But I am most proud of how I have accomplished those things: by building relationships, earning trust, persevering through challenges, bringing people together, and investing in others. Those qualities are central to who I am as a leader and the principles I will carry forward throughout the next chapter of my career.
