A Call to Compassion: Breaking the Stigma and Supporting Those in Their Darkest Hours
It Is a Daily Fight, and It's Up to Us to Either Win or Lose
Each of us has a battle that we are going through. This can be a battle with addiction, depression, anxiety, food, dependency on others, or any other mental or physical health issue or form of abuse.
There are those who hide behind closed doors or masks so others will never know what they are going through. These battles are not meant to be fought alone. Unfortunately, there is a stigma that if you suffer from anything listed above, you brought it on yourself or should have been able to fix or stop it easily. This is so very far from the truth.
Don't judge others who have dealt with or are dealing with any of these struggles. It's not your place or mine to judge. It is our place to offer a helping hand and be there for those who are having a hard time.
- Be there for the wife or husband experiencing physical or mental abuse.
- Be there for the family whose child is struggling with drug or alcohol addiction.
- Be there for the person who is struggling with addiction.
- Don't let them think there is no one who cares.
If you know someone going through any of these struggles, please help them find the closest Celebrate Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), or a safe house for those experiencing abuse. These resources can help them begin their journey toward healing and recovery.
Be there as a friend and walk with them. Walk beside them, not behind or in front of them. You may be the person who helps them decide to fight for their life.
I am writing this because too many people are losing their lives to drug overdoses and physical abuse. The change starts with us. Don't be afraid to step up and be the one who breaks the cycle. Let's be the positive influence we need to be.
