Let Her Lipstick π Do All The Talking Part 1
A candid exploration of choosing the wrong man and the painful cycle of heartbreak and self-blame.
Why Do Men Ghost Us?
Why do men ghost us?
They act like they want to get to know us. They seem intrigued by our looks, our personalities, our figures, and our posts. Yet somehow, weβor should I say, Iβend up heartbroken and disappointed.
I always seem to pick the wrong man. It's like an incurable disease that refuses to heal, no matter what. No amount of time or the right "antibiotic shot" seems to fix it. Somehow, I always end up in the same place: with the wrong man and the wrong relationship.
This is a journey I'd like to take you on.
I'm sure many of us women have made the mistake of choosing the wrong man. Deep down, we often know we should walk away from the relationship before it goes any further. In my case, I stayed longer than I should have.
Somehow, I always ended up being blamed. Even worse, I blamed myself for tolerating the disrespect from the man I believed would one day become "my future husband."
That has always been my biggest problemβI think too far ahead. Instead of slowing down and taking control of the wheel while the relationship is still developing, I race ahead and begin imagining a future that may never exist.
The Beginning
It was June 3, 2026, when I came across a handsome public figure on the Threads app.
He seemed like a dream. From everything I saw online, every woman he had been with appeared to be treated like a five-star princess.
After watching him on television, I caught myself thinking, "Maybe if I comment on his posts and send him a few kiss emojis π, he'll notice me."
The next day, I started leaving comments. At one point, I thought I had gone a little overboard. After all, this handsome Hollywood personality probably received millions of comments and emojis every day.
Then, on June 10, 2026, something happened.
I received a heart emoji β€οΈ on one of his documentary posts.
I was thrilled.
I took a screenshot and even framed it.
To me, it felt real. It felt like he had actually responded to me.
That tiny heart made me think, "Maybe... just maybe... I have a chance with this gorgeous man. Maybe dreams really can come true."
But another voice inside me tried to keep me grounded.
As I stood in front of the mirror putting on my favorite red lipstick π, I looked at myself and said,
"Elaine, don't let one emoji send you into a spiral. It's just an emoji. He probably sends them to lots of fans."
I remember that conversation with myself so clearly.
I reminded myself about impersonators and online scammers. I knew the risks.
I smiled at my reflection, held up my lipstick, and quietly said,
"Yeah... you're right."
"After all, I'm not rich. I'm not a model. I don't have the perfect body or a fancy luxury car."
"For crying out loud, I drive a 2004 Saturn Ion!"
I laughed, washed up, and went to bed.
Back to Reality
Weeks passed, and honestly, I forgot all about the gorgeous guy from television.
My father became ill. Summer was beginning. Keeping my old car running so I could get to work every day became a much bigger priority than chasing a fantasy.
Life became busy.
I had my education to focus on.
I had my job.
I had responsibilities.
I had a professional reputation to maintain.
I may not have been living a Hollywood love story, but I had real people depending on me.
My father needed me.
My six-year-old German Shepherd needed me.
Reality hit, and my life shifted.
I was on top of my education, my job, my responsibilities, and my home...
Until...
Stay tuned for Part 2.
