Limiting Beliefs Controlled My Life For Decades

Breaking Free From the Limiting Belief That You Are "Not Enough"

Limiting Beliefs Controlled My Life For Decades

If you knew me, you might never guess that most of my adult life was spent living under the quiet, relentless fear that I was “not enough.” That belief seeped into every part of my existence, fueling anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt. Over time, it grew into a deeper fear—that eventually people would discover I didn’t belong, that I was living a lie.

It wasn’t until later that I learned there was a name for this: imposter syndrome. It is a powerful limiting belief that convinces you your accomplishments are accidental and your success is temporary. You live with the fear that one day someone will expose you. It is exhausting. It is isolating. And it is incredibly common.

For years, the weight of “not enough” created an internal dis-ease—one that didn’t just affect my thoughts, but my emotional and physical health. Holding everything together on the outside while silently battling fear on the inside takes a real toll. Eventually, that inner turmoil began to show up in my body, my health, and my life.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know what I believe:

Unresolved internal dis-ease eventually manifests in our physical bodies and our lived experiences.

Our health is deeply connected to our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. What we believe about ourselves shapes how we live.

Mental Health Does Not Mean “Crazy”

So often, people misunderstand mental health. They assume it only refers to severe disorders. But mental health exists on a spectrum—from unhelpful thought patterns to emotional fragility all the way to serious mental illness. My struggle wasn’t about being “crazy.” It was about dysfunctional thinking rooted in fear, insecurity, and misaligned beliefs.

Those thoughts shaped my coping mechanisms. And while those coping strategies may have protected me in earlier seasons of life, they eventually became unhealthy habits that held me back. What we practice repeatedly—healthy or unhealthy—becomes who we are. My repeated self-doubt eventually contributed to real physical and emotional consequences.

Trying to Heal From the Outside In

For decades, I tried to fix myself externally. I believed losing weight would make me feel worthy. I believed if I changed the outside, the inside would follow. But my weight wasn’t the problem—it was a symptom. The root issue was the limiting belief that I wasn’t enough.

Every time I lost weight, the belief remained. And eventually, the weight—and the emotional burden—returned. Our bodies were never meant to carry the emotional weight of unhealed wounds. When we ignore the inside and only treat the outside, we stay trapped.

Healing required going inward. It required truth. It required love.

To truly heal, I had to:

  • Identify the limiting belief
  • Acknowledge the unhealthy coping mechanisms
  • Reprogram my mind with truth and compassion
  • Practice new thoughts and habits daily

The Journey Back to Self

Healing limiting beliefs is not a one-time event. It is a journey of self-discovery, courage, honesty, and grace. It requires peeling back layers of fear and shame to reconnect with the truth of who you really are.

Progress isn’t perfection. Every moment of clarity. Every new habit. Every reframed thought is victory.

Today, I continue to walk this journey with more compassion, more confidence, and more alignment. I am learning to live from truth instead of fear. I am learning to choose peace over pressure. And I am learning that I was always enough.

And so are you.
