I don't trust these modern communication gadgets, especially mobile devices. Yesterday, August 17, 2026, a relative and I were having a normal voice chat on the phone when, out of nowhere, the screen flipped to video mode.
"I AM NAKED!" I shouted. "I AM NAKED!"
At home, when I feel like it, I enjoy having my own personal version of Hedonism II. I shouldn't have to visit the island of Jamaica to experience that freedom!
Instead, I was caught completely off guard by a piece of technology. I was frightened, concerned, and thoroughly confused. I wasn't even holding the phone to my ear, so my face couldn't have accidentally touched the screen. My relative said she wasn't holding hers close either. My hand hadn't touched a thing because the phone was on speaker, resting on a table right next to me.
I was in a completely private area of my house, and I felt totally violated.
What could have possibly gone wrong for things to go so awry? Was a stray shadow, a reflection, or a phantom screen glitch enough to trigger the camera? Or are phones now programmed to spy on us if we don't keep them exactly six inches from our faces?
What is going on?
Is this the new "God is watching" era?
Needless to say, the sheer panic caused us both to end the conversation right then and there.
Going forward, do I have to abandon the freedom I so enjoy in the confines of my own home? Do I really need to wear clothes just to answer a mobile phone? For added security, am I going to have to cover the screens of my laptop and TV, too?
These gadgets are slowly turning into bullies, voyeurs, and peeping Toms. I no longer view them as a convenience—they are officially uninvited guests.
