Nikki & Briella
A mystical journey of transformation, sacrifice, and redemption as a family battles a vampire curse to save their beloved ones.
Nikki & Briella
They ask, “Where did we come from, Momma?”
Well, I am a Christian who reads the Holy Bible, and in Genesis, at the beginning of the Bible, we learn that humanity descended from the dust God breathed life into to create Adam and Eve. They multiplied, and we descended from them. There are many species and creatures of mankind, though, so let me tell you a little story.
We came from a supernova in the sky, and one galaxy created was the Milky Way, with its 100 to 400 billion stars and thousands of solar systems, if not more.
This is a relatively new study for us earthlings.
The Andromeda Galaxy is our closest neighboring galaxy, with nearly one trillion stars and billions of solar systems. The Milky Way and Andromeda will eventually merge and collide, creating new gravitational relationships among the stars, gas, and planets. This collision is expected to happen in about four billion years.
This will be around the same time the sun begins dying and Earth loses its ability to support life. The solar system we exist in may be destroyed in about four billion years. We still have time to create technology that could allow us to inhabit another planet in another solar system.
Perhaps resurrected bodies, born again, could move to another solar system where we might live on planets like Mars or Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. However, we would need a solar system with a burning star like our sun, because it is the star our lives depend upon.
If scientists have found particles in physics that can exist in two places at one time, perhaps we can use this knowledge to time travel, helping us learn our fate and change tragedy into triumph.
There is a planet within the habitable zone of its star that is believed to be rocky, increasing its potential for life. Another planet orbits a red dwarf star and is considered a strong candidate for supporting life because of its location within the habitable zone and the possibility that it may contain more water than Earth. There is also Proxima Centauri b, located just four light-years away. This exoplanet is within the habitable zone of its star and is one of the closest known exoplanets to Earth. TOI 715 b is another super-Earth-sized planet orbiting a red dwarf star within its habitable zone, potentially supporting liquid water.
So, as we try to preserve our race and consider the possibility of life elsewhere, I have written a sci-fi parallel-universe story. I believe there is a God and that other realms may exist.
“Oh, dope! I tried it,” Nikki said.
She had transformed from a human into a black unicorn through some whim of magic.
“I was forbidden,” Nikki said solemnly. “I did not know what to do. It seemed harmless.”
Nikki turned to the wizard quizzically.
“Oh! Nikki as a black unicorn. What a magical surprise,” the wizard said sarcastically. “And such a quiet, modest human you once were. Nikki, you meddled with a realm. A touch of that realm transformed you into something forbidden—something you were not before. Did you not know that?”
That was the wizard’s answer to Nikki’s foreboding.
“This unicorn curse came from entering parallel dimensions of fantasy through the realm, causing you to become enslaved to your fantasies until they became your reality,” the wizard explained further.
The wizard grabbed a laser-shaped white quartz crystal, and with the touch of his hand, it transformed into a black Merlin wand. This wizard truly knew magic, and it was powerful Reiki.
The wizard’s magic gave Kaylah, Nikki’s still-human daughter, hope. Nikki was not accepting of her fate. She wanted to become human again.
“What do you have to say about this mess?” Kaylah asked, appalled.
“The realm mixes with the physical plane, allowing fantasy to enter reality,” the wizard explained.
The wizard waved his wand at Nikki, but the spell backfired, turning the wand into a bouquet of wildflowers. The spell cast upon Nikki was powerful. It counteracted even the wizard’s magic.
“With the realm, you do not become your wishes or dreams. Instead, you become a manifestation of the hidden parts of your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind can become a slave to dark desires. This unicorn curse came from a hidden darkness crafted from mockery and scorn.”
That was the wizard’s explanation after cleansing the unicorns’ auras and checking their magical powers to fight evil. He balanced negativity into positivity.
“At least now, you can fight for good,” the wizard said, granting them a portion of his magic and power—a mighty torch of good luck.
“What does it mean to be subconscious yet mystical?” asked Kaylah, Nikki’s daughter.
Kaylah wrapped her arms around Nikki’s long, sleek black neck.
“Well, join us on a magical journey—a magical mystery tour,” Kaylah said. “The wizard discussed this with Nikki, our clan, and me.”
“What?!” asked Kaylah’s surprised husband, Ricky.
He had just returned home from a hard day working at the restaurant while also studying cybersecurity for school.
“Yes. Mystical unicorns were created from humans and now possess powers to battle evil,” the wizard explained to Ricky, Kaylah, and the others.
“They mention unicorns in the Psalms of the Bible, yet they remain a mystery,” the wizard added.
“Momma Nikki?!” Kaylah cried.
“This mother is now a unicorn and shines black with a glossy sheen,” the wizard bragged proudly. “I will give her a rub.”
Kaylah comforted her mother by stroking the black unicorn. Nikki’s horn shimmered with a translucent rainbow glow like clear quartz.
Nikki gently tapped Kaylah on the forehead with her horn.
It touched Kaylah’s third eye.
Kaylah blinked as her thoughts suddenly became clear and focused. Nikki’s healing horn felt like an affectionate kiss, magical and comforting. Kaylah giggled softly, touched by the moment.
Nikki and her new companion, Briella, now glowed brightly. Briella, Kaylah’s daughter and Nikki’s beloved grandchild, had also transformed.
Kaylah stared into Nikki’s eyes, searching for the person she once knew.
“Momma…” Kaylah whispered. “Are you suffering?”
Tears filled her eyes as she looked at Briella, who had become a tiny gray unicorn with soft fur like a duckling’s feathers.
“This little unicorn is mine too,” Kaylah said softly. “Her name is Briella.”
Briella was Kaylah’s baby and Nikki’s granddaughter. She shifted between human and unicorn form, trapped by the mystical realm.
“There, there,” the wizard comforted them. “I have given them armor, and they will become your bodyguards. They are both very strong.”
“Yes,” Kaylah said slowly, beginning to accept their fate. “A black unicorn and a gray baby unicorn for me to protect.”
But deep inside, Kaylah knew she would have to fight to return her mother and baby to their human forms.
Kaylah searched their eyes, trying to see whether they still remained themselves beneath the curse.
Her fate now was to fight the queen responsible for all of this.
Kaylah broke down in tears over the tragedy of their transformation and the dangerous journey ahead. She prayed to God for bravery, understanding, and strength. She wanted to know that Nikki and Briella were still there inside.
Ricky slapped his forehead in disbelief.
“Oh my! Briella is a beast too? I thought I had hidden the realm safely away. My gaming buddy gave it to me to improve gaming experiences and make alternate realities feel real.”
Ricky realized that everyone around him had fallen into a strange trance of acceptance. Shock and fear faded, replaced with eerie calm.
“This is not something to mess with,” Ricky muttered.
The realm created parallel realities and manipulated consciousness itself. An evil vampire had used it to prey upon Nikki and Briella’s subconscious minds, crafting curses from their deepest fears and desires.
The realm itself was disguised as a simple storage disk inserted into a gaming console. Hidden within its files was programming designed to tap into the conscious and subconscious mind, unlocking strange powers and alternate realities.
Nikki had once been human, but after using the realm, the Vampire Queen cast a spell that transformed her into a black unicorn enslaved to battle darkness with the light from her crystal horn.
Kaylah brought them to the gaming wizard, who purified their powers and told them the journey back to normal would not be easy. They would have to prove themselves worthy.
Briella had also transformed into a gray unicorn companion.
The wizard explained that breaking the Vampire Queen’s curse would require suffering, battles, and sacrifice. According to legend, the curse began with a poisonous vampire bite from a Dracula-like ruler searching for slaves for his castle in Transylvania.
The wizard could only grant them powers of light through white magic, transferred through electromagnetic energy and gaming technology.
Kaylah alone remained unaffected. Her rose quartz necklace, gifted by Nikki, protected her from the Vampire Queen’s power.
Kaylah became the unicorns’ guardian. Ricky and their son Jameson were knighted with bows and arrows, while the wizard granted the family powers through martial arts and archery to battle the Vampire Queen.
It became a war against slavery in the vampire kingdom.
Kaylah realized they could not fight alone. Together, they formed twelve clans inspired by the twelve disciples of Jesus.
Ancient wisdom and biblical principles would guide them in freeing the enslaved and bringing peace.
But before all of that, the curse first began with a normal family living an ordinary life.
Chapter 1: The Beginning — The Curse Is Set
In the beginning, a family lived in a three-bedroom house in Winfield, Indiana, when the vampire’s first bite spread an evil plague across the land.
The bats of Wuhan, China, screeched through the night as the fallen Vampire Queen called to them.
“We will create slaves for Dracula,” the Vampire Queen cackled. “The dead shall walk among us as mortals become immortal zombies.”
“Those unaffected will become mystical creatures like Nikki and Briella, transformed into beasts to roam the earth.”
The Vampire Queen, Matilda Mortisha of Transylvania, held a vial of blood and drank from it as part of her dark magic.
Meanwhile, before Briella was born and before the unicorn curse, Nikki was a struggling single mother living in a low-income apartment in Valparaiso. During the pandemic, food prices skyrocketed, and Nikki struggled with hunger and poverty.
Eventually, Nikki moved in with her daughter Kaylah and son-in-law Ricky in their rented home in Winfield. The neighborhood was quiet, almost unnaturally so.
People wandered the streets like zombies. One girl at the donut shop would stand motionless in a trance, staring blankly.
The plague had spread into the subdivision.
Kaylah and Ricky were Christians trying to raise their children with faith and values during difficult times.
Though they drank alcohol occasionally, Nikki worried for them and suggested Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. They appreciated her concern but declined, believing their drinking was still under control.
Nikki herself became deeply involved in church life and prayer. She studied scripture, attended services, and reached out to churches seeking support, healing, and donations.
One church centered around boxing matches and fierce competition between congregations. Their pastor, known as “The Rock,” was both a boxer and a spiritual leader.
Bare-knuckle boxing became a strange form of church entertainment and fundraising.
As the family struggled through hardship, the mysterious realm waited silently within the gaming console.
The disk was already inserted.
The spell had begun.
Chapter 2: The Realm
Baby Briella and Jameson had been born.
“Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” Briella giggled as she pulled the blanket off Kaylah.
Kaylah awoke and reached for the television remote while baby Jameson slept nearby.
The television screen flickered with static.
“You were out cold,” Ricky said gently. “I thought you were crying.”
“Oh, I was,” Kaylah answered. “Briella and my mom were unicorns. The wizard in my dream was trying to help them.”
“There, there,” Ricky comforted her. “Take this.”
He handed Kaylah the realm disk.
“You can tell me the rest later.”
Kaylah yawned, smiled at Ricky, and slowly drifted back to sleep.
“Nikki and Briella… thank you,” Kaylah whispered.
“I have a story for my mom Nikki to write.”
“My mom says I’m experiencing parallel realities, and she hears my tears when she’s inside the realm asleep at night. Freaky stuff.”
“Okay, Dorothy,” Ricky teased gently. “Ghostwriting is the best therapy.”
