One Woman, Two Voices
Meet the writer, designer, and dreamer behind multiple worlds—both real and imagined.
Allow me to introduce myself.
I’m Michele Leigh Greene.
I’m also Constance Vaughn.
Depending on the day, I’m Mom, writer, interior designer, deep thinker, sales pro, marketer, publisher, animal lover, nature lover, entrepreneur, professional rabbit-hole explorer, and full-time resident of the rather elaborate fantasy world inside my own head.
It’s crowded in there.
I’ve been told more than once that I “go too deep.”
My immediate thought is usually, Or perhaps you don’t go deep enough.
See? I know. I’m probably the worst offender when it comes to seeing the world entirely from my own point of view. But don’t we all? We’re standing in different places, looking at the same thing and wondering how the hell the other person can’t see what we see.
That fascinates me.
It’s probably why I write.
So, if you really want to know me, you may have to pick a version and dig in.
Right now, I am very much in writer mode, which means I am simultaneously living in the real world while building several others.
One of them is set in Palm Beach.
Think modern dynasty, money, power, beautiful houses, complicated families, old secrets, ambition, betrayal, and enough human dysfunction to keep everyone entertained.
My goal?
Something with the depth and sprawling characters of Game of Thrones — except modern, in Palm Beach, and without the dragons.
Probably.
The slightly ridiculous part is that I actually lived inside pieces of that world for years.
Apparently, I wasn't just living my life. I was gathering material.
My ultimate vision for it is television. HBO-sized television.
Is it there today?
No.
That would require me to actually finish writing it.
Details.
But that is exactly where I intend to take it.
The second world is completely different.
It takes characters you already think you know and throws them into a modern, high-tech, fantastical universe where I get to redefine the rules.
That one lives in my head as animation — smart, funny, visually extraordinary, and made for television.
Netflix, you may call when ready.
Again, I’m not claiming these projects are already sitting on some studio executive’s desk.
I’m saying that’s the destination.
There’s a difference between pretending you’ve arrived and being unafraid to tell people where you’re going.
I've already started putting some of these worlds on paper.
As Constance Vaughn, I wrote A Dream Takes Flight — Susie Q’s Story, a historical fiction novel inspired by the behind-the-scenes world of the airline industry and the women who entered it during a time when women were handed a fairly short list of acceptable lives.
Susie had other plans.
She knew she was going to travel the world.
And she did.
She lived the stories.
I got to tell them.
Then, as Michele Leigh Greene, I went somewhere completely different.
I wrote Welcome to the World’s Worst Club after spending more than twenty years learning far more about grief than I ever wanted to know.
I’m an only child.
One by one, the people who made up my original family were gone.
There is no elegant sentence that makes that tidy.
And grief, I discovered, isn't particularly interested in being tidy either.
So I didn't write a book telling people how to grieve.
I wrote the kind of book I wish someone had handed me — one that could sit beside you, tell the truth, let you be furious, let you be inappropriate, let you laugh at something you absolutely should not be laughing at, and never once tell you that you're doing grief incorrectly.
Those two books may look completely unrelated.
They aren't.
They both come from the same place.
People.
What they survive.
What they hide.
What they dream about.
What they become.
And all the strange, painful, hysterical, beautiful things that happen between the beginning and the end of a life.
That’s where my writing lives.
And apparently, there are a lot more stories waiting their turn.
I'm not going to tell you about all of them yet because, according to a rule I have recently imposed upon myself, a book does not technically exist simply because I have written the entire thing brilliantly inside my head.
Annoying rule.
Necessary rule.
So for now, I'll share the ones that are making their way onto paper.
I’m moving into territory that is unfamiliar, exciting, slightly terrifying, and exactly where I want to be.
I don't know precisely where all of this ends.
That's part of the fun.
What I do know is that I'm finally allowing all the different parts of me — Michele, Constance, the entrepreneur, the designer, the mother, the marketer, the storyteller, the woman who thinks too deeply, and the woman whose imagination refuses to behave — to exist in the same place.
No more separate boxes.
It's all me.
And if you'd like to come along while I build it, write it, occasionally overthink it, probably redesign it three times, and ultimately put it into the world...
