Purpose

Understanding Your Purpose and How to Walk in It

In order to understand purpose, one must first understand its definition. Purpose is what you were designed to do based on your abilities, skills, and talents. It is the blueprint of what makes you uniquely you. It is the reason that, when you are operating in your purpose, your actions often feel effortless. Why? Because you are doing what you were created to do.

Purpose helps quiet fear, doubt, and anxiety because, once you understand what you were created for, you become focused and committed to seeing it through to fruition—no matter the obstacles and no matter the naysayers. Purpose becomes a mandate within your spirit—a deep knowing that says, "This is what I was meant to do. This is what I was born to do."

One of the questions I am most often asked is, "How do I know my purpose?" and "How do I walk in my purpose?" The answer is simpler than many people think.

For believers, start by asking God, "What have You created me to do?" and "How do I accomplish it?" Spend time in prayer, listen carefully, and pay attention to the opportunities, passions, and gifts He has placed before you.

Some may say, "I'm not a believer, so this doesn't apply to me." I respectfully disagree. Whether you approach it from a faith-based perspective or not, the process is remarkably similar.

Take time for self-reflection. Ask yourself:

  • What am I naturally good at?
  • What activities energize me rather than drain me?
  • What problems am I passionate about solving?
  • What impact do I want to have on others?

Purpose often leaves clues throughout your life. It can be found in the things that come naturally to you, the challenges you have overcome, the causes you care deeply about, and the gifts others consistently recognize in you. Sometimes purpose is hidden in plain sight because we are searching for something grand when it has been with us all along.

Walking in your purpose requires more than discovery—it requires action.

Once you identify your purpose, you must be willing to develop it, nurture it, and pursue it consistently. There will be obstacles, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. However, purpose provides the motivation to keep moving forward even when the path becomes difficult.

I know this because I have experienced the trials and tribulations firsthand while pursuing my purpose through Dominion Theatrical Productions, LLC. Much has been given, and much is required. I knew that if I stayed the course and kept the faith, God would do what He said He would do.

The truth is that purpose is not merely about personal success. It is about impact. It is about using your gifts, talents, and experiences to make a difference in the lives of others. When you operate in your purpose, you not only transform your own life, but you also create opportunities to inspire, encourage, and uplift those around you.

As Scripture says:

"A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men." — Proverbs 18:16

This verse reminds us that our talents and gifts can open doors, create opportunities, and lead to recognition and advancement. For believers, however, purpose ultimately points both us and those we influence back to God.

Purpose is not something you discover once and then forget. It is something you walk in daily. It grows, develops, and unfolds as you continue moving forward. The key is to remain focused, stay faithful to the process, and trust that the gifts placed within you were given for a reason.

You were created with purpose. The question is not whether you have one—the question is whether you are willing to discover it, embrace it, and walk boldly in it.

I chose to walk boldly in mine, and I hope you choose to do the same.
