Self Confidence-Own it!

Self-Confidence—Own It! Me Telling My Daughter, and Her in Turn Telling Her Daughters!

I have had the sweetest summer watching my oldest granddaughter go for an interview for a summer job and grow in her self-confidence as a hostess at Bear Lake Resort!

This was a huge step into the real world, and she aced the interview, despite an innocent fear of not realizing her own self-confidence!

Proud is an understatement! On her first day, she went in and owned her position. She was admired by her employers for her work ethic at just 17 years old and for how she conducted herself with the owners who live at Bear Lake Resort full-time or seasonally.

Jordan first made it her priority to learn the names of the owners and remember their drink and food choices. Small things she never realized were building her self-confidence.

As her summer job continued, she was met with dilemmas and certain situations that caught her off guard but, in turn, strengthened her ability to make decisions! One instance was when she happened to look outside and saw three young boys coming down a trail by themselves, with a black bear right behind them. It is black bear country, thus being named Bear Lake Resort. Jordan opened the door, went outside, and called the boys to come to her. She brought them inside and had them sit until she could locate their parents, who were golfing.

She told her employers what was happening, and while the parents were being located, she went back outside to help ward the bear away. She wasn’t sure if the bear would finally leave because of the sound of a foghorn blaring. It did not leave because it was scared away; however, it finally left. The parents arrived, and all was well!

The funniest (to me) was an evening when one of the property owners and his large family had rented several of the cabins for family members coming in for a birthday party for a matriarch who was over 100 years old, and Jordan was the hostess for this family.

After they had arrived and gotten settled, she was checking on them and conversing with them. She asked, in her friendly manner, “So, where is the birthday girl?” She had not seen anyone at the table who appeared to be over 100 years old. Someone spoke up, saying, “Oh, she has been dead for years! She requested that on her birthday, we all continue to gather together!”

Needless to say, Jordan’s eyes were wide, and she was speechless and embarrassed. She apologized, and they assured her that it was an honest mistake and that she had done nothing wrong.

Jordan was so embarrassed, but she continued her evening, making sure the family was happy with their event. When she arrived home, she was telling her mother what had happened and how embarrassed she was. She went on to tell her mother that it was just like you see in the movies: when the family left, the gentleman who was the property owner shook her hand, thanked her, and slid a $100 bill into her hand.

Self-confidence—own it, even when you are not sure it is there! Be yourself, be genuine, be pleasant, be able to admit your faults, expect to be challenged, and expect days that seem to fall apart—these things are building self-confidence!

Summer is over, back to school, weekend work only, and having the self-confidence to look forward to her next summer at Bear Lake. ❤️

Proud Mom and Grandmother
