When people look at successful business owners, they often see the finished product-the company, the clients, the accomplishments, and the recognition. What they don't always see are the decisions, sacrifices, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty that happened behind the scenes.
One of the most influential lessons I ever learned came from my father while I was pregnant with my second child. He told me,
You're going to live until God calls you home, but how you choose to live is up to you.
Those words changed the way I looked at life. They taught me that while we may not control every circumstance, we are responsible for the choices we make. We decide what we want, what we're willing to sacrifice, and what kind of life we want to create.
As women, we often carry multiple responsibilities. We are leaders, mothers, caregivers, professionals, and entrepreneurs. We spend so much time helping others achieve their goals that we sometimes forget to invest in our own dreams. The truth is that success doesn't happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally choose growth over comfort and action over fear.
My Entrepreneurial Journey
My own entrepreneurial journey began in my early twenties, helping businesses promote their products and services. Over time, I realized that marketing was more than advertising-it was about building relationships, creating opportunities, and helping people share their vision with the world. In 2022, I officially launched my company, Daboss Inc., to help businesses strengthen their visibility through marketing, operations, and community engagement.
One of the biggest challenges I've faced was relocating from Ohio to Montgomery, Alabama. Starting over in a new city required me to rebuild my network, establish credibility, and introduce myself to an entirely new business community. There were days when progress felt slow, but I reminded myself that every meaningful accomplishment begins with a single step.
What I've learned is that many business owners don't struggle because they lack passion. They struggle because they don't know where to start. They have incredible ideas but need guidance, structure, and support to bring those ideas to life. That's where leadership matters.
