Bristol Myers Squibb Expands Domestic Footprint with $2.3 Billion Houston Manufacturing Campus

In a major move for domestic pharmaceutical infrastructure, Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) has announced a $2.3 billion investment to build a state-of-the-art drug manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas.

This multibillion-dollar project forms a core component of BMS’s broader $40 billion, five-year commitment to expanding U.S.-based operations and biopharmaceutical innovation.

Key Highlights of the New Facility

Location: Generation Park, a 4,300-acre development in Houston, Texas

Scale: Approximately 600,000 square feet

Capabilities: Designed to manufacture a wide range of therapies—including small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs)—with a flexible architecture that can adapt as the company’s pipeline evolves

Job Creation: Nearly 500 permanent, high-skilled positions in operations, engineering, quality control, and administration, along with approximately 2,000 construction jobs through 2030

State Support: Eligible for a $4.89 million grant through the Texas Enterprise Fund, along with incentives under the state’s JETI program

Why Houston?

BMS selected the Houston site after evaluating several markets across the Central and Eastern United States. Key factors in the decision included:

  • A high-caliber life sciences workforce
  • Proximity to critical utilities and logistics infrastructure
  • Strong state and local economic development partnerships and incentives

The Bigger Picture: Reshoring and Pharma Growth

As CEO Christopher Boerner emphasized, the investment reflects strong confidence in American leadership in life sciences and biomanufacturing.

BMS joins industry peers such as Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Roche, and Pfizer in accelerating major domestic production expansions.

Backed by solid commercial performance—including raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance of $49 billion–$50 billion—BMS continues to scale both its research and development efforts, with approximately $10 billion invested in 2025 alone, and its domestic manufacturing capacity.
