Unpacking Your Genius
Discover Your Unique Genius and Release Your Full Potential
Let’s go on a quick journey.
Think back to your childhood. What ideas gave you butterflies? What activities kept you up at night—not out of worry, but out of excitement because you couldn’t wait to engage again the next day? What captured your curiosity so deeply that you wanted to explore it, master it, and even teach it to others?
Those moments matter more than we often realize.
Now, take that imagery and those feelings a step further. Imagine that your race, gender, and other defining characteristics carried no limitations or expectations. Who would you be today? Where would you be? And how closely does that align with where you are now?
Unpacking your genius is not an overnight transformation. As we’ve explored, our genius often begins to take shape in childhood, before it is filtered through expectations, responsibilities, and external pressures. Left uninterrupted, it has the capacity to move mountains, explore new territory, and create opportunities aligned with purpose.
However, many of us have learned to compartmentalize those early passions. Familial expectations, environmental influences, societal norms, and even self-imposed limitations become invisible barriers that restrict our ability to fully understand and express our ingenuity. Over time, our genius is treated like stored baggage—something we occasionally revisit but often keep tucked away.
So, what is your genius?
It is more than a feeling. It is the exceptional, creative, and distinctive part of you that can operate across contexts. From a human capital perspective, organizations are not just seeking skills, education, and experience—they are seeking the value created when those elements are activated by your unique genius. This is your confidence.
But that value cannot be realized if your genius is hidden, minimized, or disengaged.
We are not meant to present ourselves as something stored away; we are meant to be visible—much like a trophy—impactful and fully expressed. Your genius is not baggage. It is the differentiator.
Shine.
Release the mindset that requires you to shrink or conceal your gifts. Take intentional steps to unpack what has always been within you. When you do, you position yourself to operate at your highest level of potential and impact.
For me, my genius shows up as boldness, innovation, and a willingness to stand in the gap for others. It is not confined to a specific industry or role; it is driven by purpose and responsive to the assignment in front of me. My genius is adaptable. It moves where it is needed.
Now, it’s your turn.
What does your genius look like—and are you ready to fully unpack it?
