Walk the Walk

True influence is built through daily choices, integrity, and the quiet example we set when no one is watching.

Walking the Walk

Influence is often measured by titles, awards, promotions, or the number of people who follow us. While those achievements have value, I have learned that true influence is built long before recognition arrives. It is established in the quiet moments when no one is watching, when we choose character over convenience and purpose over popularity.

The women who shaped my life were not celebrities or public figures. They were mothers, grandmothers, aunts, teachers, church mothers, and community leaders who understood the importance of living what they believed. They taught me that leadership is not simply about giving directions; it is about setting an example. Their lives demonstrated that the most powerful lessons are often taught through actions rather than words.

Growing up without my biological mother, I was blessed to be surrounded by a village of women who poured into me. They encouraged me to read, to learn, to believe in myself, and, most importantly, to trust God. They did not just tell me about perseverance—they modeled it. They did not simply speak about faith—they lived it. Their example became a blueprint that continues to guide me today.

As a special educator, behavior therapist, author, mentor, and woman of faith, I have come to understand that people are always watching. Students watch how we respond to challenges. Children watch how we treat others. Colleagues watch how we handle adversity. Family members watch whether our actions align with the values we claim to hold. Leadership is not reserved for boardrooms or public platforms; it is practiced daily through consistency, integrity, and service.

There have been moments in my journey when it would have been easier to quit. Like many women, I have faced disappointment, loss, financial challenges, and periods of uncertainty. Yet I have learned that resilience is not about pretending everything is perfect. Resilience is the decision to keep moving forward, even when the path is unclear. It is choosing faith over fear and purpose over discouragement.

In today's world, there is no shortage of voices telling women who they should be. Social media often celebrates appearances, accomplishments, and carefully curated success stories. While there is nothing wrong with celebrating achievements, our greatest contribution is not what we post—it is how we live. Influence is not found in perfection. It is found in authenticity.

Walking the walk means remaining committed to your values when circumstances test them. It means extending grace when bitterness would be easier. It means standing for what is right, even when standing alone. It means continuing to serve others, not because it brings recognition, but because it reflects the person you were called to be.

As women, we carry tremendous power to shape the lives of those around us. We may never fully know the impact of our words, our kindness, our mentorship, or our example. A simple act of encouragement can change the trajectory of someone's life. A moment of compassion can restore hope. A life lived with integrity can inspire generations.

My hope is that women will recognize that influence is not something we chase. It is something we cultivate through our daily choices. The most influential women are often those who quietly show up, remain faithful, and leave every person and every place a little better than they found them.

The world does not need more women who simply talk about change. It needs women who are willing to walk the walk.

And when we do, our influence extends far beyond anything we could ever imagine.
