Women Also Succeed When We Raise Good Boys
Raising Respectful Sons: The Key to Creating Opportunities for Women in the Workplace
We talk often about creating opportunities for women and helping them succeed. But we cannot have that conversation honestly if misogyny, harassment, and toxic male behavior continue to thrive—especially across social media and digital spaces.
If we want a better future for women in the workplace, the work must start much earlier.
Those of us raising sons carry an important responsibility. The way boys are taught to communicate, empathize, and respect others will directly shape the environments women work and lead in tomorrow.
This begins at home.
Delay access to cell phones and electronics as long as possible. Do not use screens as babysitters. Limit or avoid social media, and monitor phone use until trust is truly earned. Online spaces shape behavior faster than we often realize.
Teach compassion through action. Volunteer together. Serve the community. Let children see empathy practiced, not just discussed.
And most importantly, communicate—every single day.
Move beyond “How was your day?” Ask specific questions about their classes, friendships, challenges, and emotions. Listen without rushing. Model respect in the way you speak to others, especially women.
When we teach boys how to speak to, treat, and respect women, we are not just shaping good sons—we are shaping better colleagues, leaders, partners, and citizens.
That is how women will succeed in the future.
And that is work worth doing.
