Her Story

About Felicia

Felicia "Tosin" Johnson is a Nigerian American executive leader, organizational development strategist, researcher, and social impact entrepreneur whose work is redefining how leadership, workplaces, and communities cultivate human flourishing. She is the CEO of PathLights Global LLC, Founder of Boat of Life Inc. (501(c)(3)), Founder of The Workforce Lens™, and the Founder and Chief Architect of The Love Genome™—a pioneering human development framework that explores how love becomes virtue, character, leadership, relationships, and ultimately, human flourishing.

A first-generation college graduate and Nigerian American professional, Tosin's journey is a testament to resilience, reinvention, and purpose-driven leadership. After relocating to the United States independently, she began her career in frontline operational roles, including serving as a Passenger Service Agent at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and working in high-volume logistics environments. Those experiences became the foundation of her leadership philosophy: every organization succeeds when it recognizes the dignity, experiences, and potential of its people.

Throughout her career, Tosin has held progressive leadership positions across global organizations, including Amazon and Lear Corporation, where she led initiatives spanning human resources, organizational effectiveness, workforce analytics, employee engagement, operational transformation, and leadership development. At Amazon, she supported more than 4,000 employees, led people operations for teams of up to 3,500, and spearheaded Amazon Community Project 23—a district-wide initiative that expanded educational opportunities and received regional media recognition. At Lear Corporation, she drove measurable improvements in onboarding efficiency, employee engagement, payroll accuracy, process optimization, and digital transformation through the strategic integration of AI-enabled technologies and evidence-based organizational practices.

Today, Tosin's work extends beyond organizational consulting. Through PathLights Global LLC, she helps organizations strengthen leadership capability, organizational effectiveness, and workforce transformation. Through Boat of Life Inc., she advances dignity-centered community initiatives that support individuals and families navigating life's transitions. Through The Workforce Lens™, she publishes research and thought leadership exploring organizational behavior, leadership psychology, ethics, and the future of work.

These experiences ultimately led to the creation of The Love Genome™, her flagship framework and the culmination of years of research, professional practice, and lived experience. Designed to bridge psychology, leadership, organizational behavior, and human development, The Love Genome™ provides a universal framework for understanding how people flourish as individuals, leaders, families, organizations, and communities. It serves as the intellectual foundation connecting every aspect of Tosin's work.

Currently completing a Master's degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology with a 4.0 GPA, Tosin continues to advance research-driven approaches that place humanity at the center of leadership and organizational success. Her vision is to establish a global legacy of equipping leaders, institutions, and communities with practical frameworks that transform not only how people work, but how they live, lead, and flourish.

"Empathy is not softness; it is strategy. Reinvention is not a setback; it is a strategy." Those principles continue to define both her leadership philosophy and her life's work.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Felicia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to leading with empathy, honoring the human experience, and viewing reinvention as a lifelong strategy rather than a response to adversity. Early in my career, I witnessed how profoundly leadership without empathy could affect individuals, teams, and entire organizations. That experience shaped a conviction that has guided every stage of my journey: lead people, don't simply manage them.

My path has taken me across countries, industries, and leadership roles—from beginning my professional career in Nigeria, to relocating to the United States independently, working frontline operational positions, and eventually leading people, transforming organizations, and founding my own ventures. Every chapter reinforced the same lesson: dignity, resilience, curiosity, and compassion are not just personal values—they are strategic advantages that enable people and organizations to flourish.

Throughout my career, whether supporting thousands of employees in global organizations or building PathLights Global LLC and Boat of Life Inc., I have remained committed to creating environments where people feel seen, valued, and empowered to reach their potential. Those experiences also inspired my life's work, The Love Genome™, a framework born from years of observing how empathy, character, leadership, and human connection shape lasting success.

I often say, "Empathy is not softness; it is strategy. Reinvention is not a setback; it is a strategy." Success, to me, is not measured by titles or achievements alone, but by the lives we elevate, the dignity we preserve, and the legacy we leave behind. If my work helps leaders build organizations where people don't simply perform but truly flourish, then I consider that my greatest success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received—and one that has become a defining principle of my life—is that reinvention is not a setback; it is a strategy. That perspective transformed how I approach challenges, career transitions, and new opportunities. It taught me that growth is rarely linear and that our greatest breakthroughs often come after we're willing to begin again.

Throughout my career, I've had to reinvent myself multiple times—across countries, industries, and leadership roles. Rather than viewing those transitions as detours, I learned to see them as preparation. Each new beginning strengthened my resilience, broadened my perspective, and equipped me to lead with greater empathy and purpose.

Today, I often tell others, "The courage to begin again is often the very thing that prepares us to lead." That philosophy has shaped not only my career but also the creation of my organizations and The Love Genome™, reminding me that every challenge carries the potential to become a foundation for meaningful impact.

Ultimately, I believe our careers are not defined by how many times we start over, but by how courageously we continue to grow, serve, and create opportunities for others along the way.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple: choose yourself early. Don't wait for permission to be visible, to use your voice, or to pursue opportunities that align with your purpose. Too often, we spend years believing that our work will speak for itself. While excellence is essential, visibility matters too. People cannot champion what they do not know exists.

I also want young women to understand that their story is not something to hide—it's one of their greatest strengths. Your journey, your challenges, your reinventions, and even your setbacks have the power to inspire, connect, and lead others. Never believe your story is too complicated, too unconventional, or too much. It is often the very thing that makes your perspective valuable.

For much of my career, I influenced quietly. I focused on serving, leading, and creating impact behind the scenes. It wasn't until I applied for this recognition that I intentionally stepped into the spotlight and allowed my story to be seen. That experience taught me an important lesson: visibility is not about seeking attention; it's about creating opportunities for your work, your ideas, and your purpose to reach the people who need them most.

Finally, remember that success is not about becoming someone else—it's about becoming more of who you are. Lead with integrity, continue learning, embrace reinvention, and never underestimate the value of empathy. As I often say, "Empathy is not softness; it is strategy. Reinvention is not a setback; it is a strategy." Your influence will never be measured solely by how many people know your name, but by how many lives are better because you had the courage to share your gifts with the world.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges facing organizations today is learning how to balance technology with humanity. Artificial intelligence is transforming how we recruit, develop, and support talent, but technology alone cannot build trust, inspire engagement, or create cultures where people thrive. The future of work will belong to organizations that can successfully integrate innovation with empathy.

Throughout my career, I've seen this challenge from multiple perspectives. Whether leading people operations in high-volume environments at Amazon or driving HR transformation and process innovation at Lear Corporation, I witnessed how workforce complexity, operational volatility, and rapid technological change require leaders to think beyond systems and processes. Sustainable transformation happens when organizations redesign not only how work gets done, but how people experience work.

At the same time, I believe we are entering one of the greatest opportunities our profession has ever seen. Human Resources is evolving from a transactional function into a strategic driver of organizational performance, culture, and innovation. With advances in AI, workforce analytics, and organizational psychology, HR leaders now have unprecedented opportunities to create workplaces that are more inclusive, data-informed, agile, and human-centered.

This evolution is also what inspired my work on The Love Genome™. As technology continues to reshape work, I believe leadership must become even more intentional about the qualities that make us uniquely human—empathy, character, trust, purpose, and meaningful connection. These are not "soft skills"; they are enduring strategic capabilities that determine whether organizations merely adapt to change or truly flourish.

My hope is that the next generation of leaders will stop viewing empathy and innovation as competing priorities. The greatest opportunity before us is to build organizations where technology enhances human potential, leadership is rooted in dignity, and success is measured not only by performance, but by the lives we positively impact along the way.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and my personal life are empathy, dignity, integrity, resilience, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to helping people flourish. I believe success without humanity is incomplete, and that leadership is ultimately measured not only by results, but by the lives we influence, the trust we build, and the opportunities we create for others to grow.

Empathy has always been the foundation of my leadership philosophy. Throughout my career, whether leading teams in high-pressure environments, transforming HR systems, or building organizations from the ground up, I have sought to create cultures where people feel respected, valued, and empowered to do their best work. Even as technology continues to reshape the workplace, I believe innovation should enhance the human experience—not replace it.

I also value resilience and reinvention. My own journey has taught me that growth often begins where comfort ends, and that every transition carries the opportunity to become stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. Those experiences have shaped not only the way I lead but also the way I live.

These values ultimately inspired The Love Genome™, my framework for understanding how empathy, character, leadership, and meaningful human connection shape individuals, organizations, and communities. At its core is a simple belief: when we invest in the human experience, performance, innovation, and lasting impact naturally follow.

As I often say, "Empathy is not softness; it is strategy. Reinvention is not a setback; it is a strategy." To me, an influential woman is someone who remains true to her values regardless of her title, continuously grows without losing her humanity, and uses her influence to elevate others. I hope that, long after my accomplishments are forgotten, people will remember that they felt seen, valued, and inspired because our paths crossed.
