About Abby

Abby Martinez is a Dual Credit Advisor Counselor at Midland ISD in Midland, Texas, where she supports high school students pursuing college-level coursework while completing their high school education. Abby serves as a liaison between the high school and Midland College, helping students understand dual credit requirements and stay on track toward earning both their high school diploma and associate degree. She also provides academic, social-emotional, and mental health support to help students navigate the challenges of balancing high school and college expectations.

Abby brings a strong background in education and student development to her counseling career. After earning her bachelor’s degree in biology, she spent five years teaching seventh-grade science before transitioning into school counseling. She has since gained six years of experience as a school counselor, including two years at the high school level. Abby’s passion for education was influenced by supportive teachers in her own life, as well as her desire to pursue a meaningful career that allowed her to support students and raise her own children. She is also a member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).

Abby is committed to helping students recognize their potential and remain focused on their educational and personal goals. She credits her family as a significant source of motivation and strives to make her children and parents proud through her work and example. Her philosophy is grounded in perseverance, encouraging others to keep going despite challenges and to keep their eyes on the prize. Through dual credit advising, academic guidance, and student support, Abby helps students access greater educational opportunities and develop the confidence and preparation needed for future success.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my children and parents. Their love, support, and belief in me motivate me to keep going, make them proud, and strive to become the person they see in me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to keep going and stay focused on the goal. No matter what challenges life brings, I believe in persevering, staying determined, and keeping my eyes on the prize.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are family, connection, and creating meaningful experiences. I love traveling with my four children, meeting new people, trying different foods, and making lasting memories together.
