Her Story

About Abigail

Abigail Ramirez is a dedicated clean energy and data analytics professional serving as Data Analytics Manager at the Illinois Power Agency in Chicago, Illinois. In her role, she manages the state’s clean energy dashboard, a data-driven resource designed to track renewable energy development and provide stakeholders and policymakers with greater visibility into Illinois’ clean energy progress. Her work reflects her commitment to advancing an equitable clean energy transition through accessible data, thoughtful analysis, and informed decision-making.

Abigail’s career reflects the intersection of her interests in sustainability, environmental studies, data, and public policy. Before becoming Data Analytics Manager in 2024, she served as an Illinois Solar for All Program Associate at the Illinois Power Agency and previously worked in library and sustainability-focused roles. She also contributed to environmental and scientific initiatives during her studies, including work with campus green spaces and biology laboratories. Abigail earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability Studies and Political Science from Roosevelt University after completing an Associate of Science at Elgin Community College.

Driven by a desire to create meaningful opportunities and greater representation, Abigail draws inspiration from her parents, who immigrated from Mexico. As a Spanish-speaking Latina working in the energy sector, she values being a visible example for others who may not always see themselves represented in professional spaces. She is passionate about educating the public about clean energy programs and demonstrating how renewable energy can create tangible benefits for communities. Abigail’s approach is grounded in the belief that lasting change comes from actively building a better future, rather than simply benefiting from the work of those who came before.

Ten minutes with Abigail

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my parents, who immigrated from Mexico and made significant sacrifices to create opportunities for me. Their journey, especially my father’s limited access to education, motivates me to pursue opportunities they could not and to help create more inclusive spaces where others can see themselves represented.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to connect with people who are already in the roles they aspire to have. Mentors can provide valuable insight into the steps that helped them succeed, as well as lessons from mistakes to avoid. Building relationships through LinkedIn and other professional networks can also open doors to guidance, perspective, and new opportunities.
