Her Interview

Ten minutes with Adriana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, confidence, and consistently proving my value through results, even in a male-dominated industry where women are significantly underrepresented. I focused on building credibility through performance and client impact rather than relying on self-promotion. Beyond professional achievement, I am driven by helping others and giving back through active involvement in community organizations and volunteer leadership roles.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was that people skills matter more than technical knowledge at the start. During my interview with American Express Financial Advisors, they valued my experience in human resources and my ability to work with people, even though I had limited investment knowledge at the time. They emphasized that the technical side could be learned through licensing and training, but strong interpersonal skills were essential. That belief led me to pursue my licenses and build a 23-year career grounded in trust, communication, and client relationships.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be resilient and committed to continuous learning, as the industry is always evolving especially with new tools like AI that should be embraced to enhance your practice. Prioritize listening above all else. Take the time to understand your clients’ goals, concerns, and fears before offering guidance. This work is not about the advisor; it is about helping clients achieve their objectives through trust, understanding, and clear communication.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity in my field today is the major wealth transfer, with significant assets shifting into the hands of women through business ownership, leadership roles, inheritance, divorce, and widowhood. This creates a growing need for financial guidance tailored to women, particularly those who may not have been actively involved in household finances. Many find themselves overwhelmed when life events occur unexpectedly, such as the loss of a spouse or a divorce. My focus is on guiding them through these transitions helping them understand their financial situation and navigate the process with confidence and clarity.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values in my work and personal life are service, integrity, and community. I am deeply driven by the opportunity to help others, particularly by guiding women through complex financial transitions such as divorce, loss, or inheritance, and helping them feel confident about their future. I believe in truly listening to understand each client’s goals and concerns so I can support them effectively. Giving back is also central to who I am, which is why I stay actively involved in volunteer board roles and community organizations.
