Alexis Olds

Alexis Olds is a seasoned educator with over 40 years of experience in higher education, currently serving as faculty at Cuesta College, University of La Verne, and previously at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She holds a PhD from the University of Utah and has an academic background in behavioral sciences, communication, and media studies from Michigan State University and San Jose State University. Throughout her career, Alexis has been dedicated to teaching and mentoring students, specializing in adult education, higher education, and communication studies.

Before transitioning into academia, Alexis was a pioneering entrepreneur in the semiconductor industry, founding Altera Semiconductor in Silicon Valley. Her early career in a male-dominated field exposed her to significant gender bias, experiences that shaped her commitment to equity and advocacy within educational and professional environments. Despite challenges, including fighting for recognition of her groundbreaking dissertation work and addressing discriminatory practices, she has maintained a long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Currently, Alexis balances her professional life with personal pursuits, managing a historic 75-year-old home, raising a Border Collie–Cocker Spaniel puppy, and supporting her college-age daughter. She remains actively engaged in environmental and historical organizations and continues to mentor students while fostering inclusive and supportive academic spaces. Her dedication to both education and her community reflects a career defined by resilience, innovation, and impact.
